KTM's class rookie held off a frustrated Lorenzo by 0.167secs for his second pole of the season, while Honda's Yuki Takahashi confirmed his overnight third ahead of Gilera's Marco Simoncelli.

Alex de Angelis and Andrea Dovizioso, who will join Fortuna Aprilia rider Lorenzo in moving to MotoGP next season, set exactly the same lap time and will start ninth and tenth on the grid.
