Estoril extends MotoGP deal

A meeting between MotoGP rights holders Dorna Sports and officials from the Estoril circuit on Sunday morning saw a new agreement signed between the two parties for three years, which will see the world championship returning to the Portuguese venue until at least 2011.

Though the first two Portuguese Grands Prix actually took place in Spain, at Jarama in 1987 and 1988, MotoGP has been visiting Estoril every year since 2000 and the event is hugely popular with both Portuguese fans and many Spanish fans who make their way across the border.

The new three year contract was signed by Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta and Estoril Circuit Director, Domingos Piedade, at this weekend's ninth consecutive staging of MotoGP at Estoril, ahead of Sunday's races in the three respective world championship classes.
