By Mike NicksTalent spotter Roger Keys, one of the people who saw the early potential in Scott Redding, 15, who starts from the front row of the 125cc race at Donington tomorrow, tells me excitedly: "We've found the next Scott!"
Roger runs FAB Racing (www.fab-racing.co.uk), a company that promotes Metrakit Mini GP racing for youngsters aged from eight. He reckons that he's currently looking at three riders, two aged 10 and one 11, who are special.
But one of the 10-year-olds is a bit more special than the rest, and Roger plans to take the lad to Spain in 2009 to race 80cc bikes.
Identity? "I'd rather not give any names at the moment," he says. "It can affect their ambition."
Crash.net is happy to respect that.
Meanwhile, Scott Redding will make his second front-row start in seven races tomorrow on his Bluesens Aprilia. What made Roger - who comes from a family with a 77-year heritage in motorcycle racing, including the sixties' sprint star Basil Keys - notice Scott?
"He ran in our series from 2004, and you could just see it," he says. "Watch him go into a corner and his speed is frightening. Plus there's his sheer determination not to be beaten."
