By Mike NicksSilverstone will continue with its bid to try to stage the British MotoGP from 2010, even though the Northamptonshire circuit has just lost the right to host Britain's Formula 1 event from the same year.
"Yes, Silverstone is still interested," a spokesman told
Crash.net today.
The current contract between MotoGP organisers Dorna and the Donington Park circuit, home of the MotoGP event since 1987, comes up for renewal after 2009.
Dorna admit that Silverstone executives have contacted them, but have so far declined to give details of the discussions.
Donington will make a £100 million investment to improve its facilities for the Formula 1 race, a move that would obviously benefit motorcycle events as well.
Donington also insists that - despite the building work - it will still be able to host its 2009 MotoGP, WSBK and BSB rounds as planned.
"There are no plans to scrap any of the major Donington motorcycle meetings next year," a circuit spokesman told
Crash.net. "The building plan is still to be finalised but the new facilities will do nothing but enhance the circuit for riders, teams and spectators.
"Plans and timescales for the new facilities will be available in the near future."
