Looking back I see we're also starting to head down the old tired route of "Nicky the lucky world champion".

What a load of twaddle, Nicky had plenty of adversity to deal with as well. While Vale had the entire team and factory working for him, Nicky basically had his working against him. The incident in Portugal where he was taken out pretty much typified the attitude of the whole set-up that Nicky was more a nuisance than an asset, Pedrosa didn't even think he had to apologise afterwards, the wee rascal . Vale was also fortune to avoid a penalty for his yellow flag pass on Nakano in Australia so it didn't all go against him.

Nicky was a worthy World Champion and deserved it,.... totally

Excellent to see Mika up there, great bloke :)
Deeming him rookie of the year is a little premature in my opinion, the season hasn't even started, but I hope he can improve and show some good things.
Elias 2nd and 3rd place finishes last year show that there is potential in the team.

"...We had an almost perfect bike..."

When is the last time anyone but Stoner said that about a desmosedici MOTO GP bike?

So glad to see that either Ducati have tamed the GP9 so that others can ride it, or perhaps the rest of the pack have learned a trick or two?

What about Nicky Hayden? Send him back to AMA and Ducati should sign Spies for next year- just as good in front of the camera but twice as quick on a motorbike.

Since the news was released that Kalio was going to Ducati, he's been my tip for surprise package of 09 and winter testing has done nothing at all to change my mind.

He's a bit dour which means nothing will distract him, and he is a real trier. The bike can go round a track quickly, obviously not at all easy to do but it can be done and Mika just will not give up.

Very early days yet, but Casey's team mate in 2010?

He might be saying that because he isn't experienced enough-he reached his limit of ability, so the bike was almost perfect for him at this stage.

not insulting him, i think he's doing great, but his lack of whinging doesn't mean he's sorted on the desmo for good race pace.

should be interesting though!

Kallio will be angling for a factory spot next to Casey so he will be very polte to Ducati this year. Look out Nicky.

Its good to see Mika doing great! If he performs well this season it could be way to factory desmo. Ducati needs someone who is proven to be fast with desmo. Otherwise it will only be Caseys goodnes and not the bike...

Disappointed to see people disagreeing- what exactly is it that you're disagreeing about?

This time last year Melandri was nowhere and the likes of Sylvain Guintolli (the 2007 Rookie of the year and peoples favourite) were struggling and saying they couldn't make the bike work.

Now we have Gibernau and Kallio in the top 10, plus Nicky Hayden running stronger than Marco Melandri ever managed. Yes, Nicky was 2006 World Champ but that was fortune.
(Yes, fortune DOES favour the brave).

Marco is a wc runner up and knows how to ride.

So despite Kallio's comment and three riders addtional to Stoner making the bike perform, the forum thinks I'm wrong? The 09 Ducati is a better bike!

hahaha, Hayden fortune champion in 2006?

Come on! nobody told Rossi to lay down in Valencia! he had a point advantage. Nicky lost plenty of points when Pedrosa bowled him out of the race.

Fortune is not the right word. I would call it the best, most complete package (team, rider, bike)

* I'm not a fan of Hayden or Rossi. My man are Elias and Simoncelli.
