MOTOGP » Ducatis either end of top speed charts

The top speed figures from Friday’s MotoGP free practice session at Laguna Seca showed Valentino Rossi’s Yamaha leading the way on 262.9km/h, but the biggest surprise was the variation between the Ducati riders.

I think this is a very interesting statistic. If you discount the possibility that the Stoner machine has a special one off bike that makes it a superior machine for all the other Ducati's, then the only explanation is the manner in which stoner gets onto the front straight. I think his corner speed is higher and he gets on the throttle earlier than all the other Ducati riders. Whether this is to to with superior team tuning of ignition, suspension or just rider talent is unknown, i suspect it could be a combination of all of these things. Whatever the reason its a startling result. Just how is it possible there is such a huge gap in speed with what are always said to be identical machines?

Rabbit....If you managed to read the article on Mika Kalio you would see he states that Casey gets on the throttle 10mt earlier than him.....that is alot when it comes to getting your speed up quickly.
Also when Casey first jumped on the Duke for testing comments where made that he had the throttle control of Wayne Rainey. Some how Casey has managed to work out a way to ride this bike fast for him, where as other riders are hoping that Ducati can make it work for them. This what makes him such a good rider...he used to get bagged for having the best bike , but as we all know that is bullsh1t so now it is for his personality......seems like his racing has proved a point...he can ride :)

Duke..Taking Kalio's comments into account it makes this speed differential all the more amazing. I don't deny that the Stoner is highly skilled at riding a racing motorcycle, in fact i am a big fan, but all the riders at this level are incedibly talented. There has to be something else going on, the gap is just too large. It can't just be a case of Stoner 'unlocking' some secret in the Ducati's behaviour or the other would have found it. Kalio and Hayden in particular are fearless.

Rabbit....Stoners secret ! Even Kalio said that..."If I could only work out how he does it I would be as fast"
I know Nicky has the same bike as Casey, as for the others its hard to say but I am sure Ducati would try to get stuff to them as quickly as possible for such a small company.....But I do understand where you are coming from, how does he do it :?
