MOTOGP » Toseland black flag for missing 'harsh' penalty

James Toseland had a day to forget at Laguna Seca on Sunday, being black flagged on lap 11 after failing to serve a ride-through penalty for jumping the start.

Well Mr Hyde... I think we know the answer to the Ducati question. Yes, Stoner could. But why is anyones guess... Why can't other rides ride this thing. As for Toseland.... as you say... Joke.... After playing the prima donna with the team manager and mechanics, he languishes a very long way behind Colin Edwards who has proved his superiority where it counts.

I think though that the top 4 riders ARE the top 4 riders as they do it week in ad week out. They also suffer greatly for their position (especially Pedrosa and Lorenzo of late) except for Valentino. Speaking of Valentino, he would win on the Kawasaki.:)

@ RawDawg

Just an after thought.

I understand that the factory bikes get the upgrades first so have an advantage over the satellite teams, but I wonder what the race results would look like if Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner, Pedrosa were riding for Tech 3 Yamaha or a Honda satellite team with the mid pack riders on the factory bikes ?

Of course we can never know unless the experiment took place.

Could Stoner on the satellite Ducati outrun Canepa or Kallio ?

Could Rossi and Lorenzo on satellite Yamahas outrun Toseland (joke) and Edwards on factory Yamahas ?

Could Pedrosa and Dovizioso on satellite Hondas outrun Elias and DeAngelis on factory Hondas ?

Food for thought. 46

Your first point is valid. However what you state is the problem now. So what we are watching is also ridiculous.

Your second point still does not address the basic fact that you cannot know the ability of a rider on this type of bike without giving them the opportunity to race one.

It would appear that in Moto GP right now there is only 4 or 5 riders that are truly competitive, why bother sending the rest out if they cannot compete ?

I would rather see new riders given a chance to get up to speed rather than watch the same ones year in year out who have had more than enough time but still can't make it. 46

It's a ridiculous idea for 2 reasons:

1. All bikes aren't the same. If you are not on a factory Yamaha or Honda than your chances of a top 5 in the points are slim to none.

2. MotoGP quality riders aren't a dime a dozen. There is a reason there is only a couple of rookies each year. There are not 5-15 riders each year that are good enough to be in MotoGP.

Instead of resorting to personal insults why don't you explain why it is a ridiculous idea. 46

@Mr Hyde, re-read your posts, have a long hard think about your suggestion. Then when the potions has worn off come back to the real world as Dr Jeckyll. Now if you still cannot see how stupid and unworkable this ridiculous idea is then you are an even bigger idiot than your posts would suggest!

continued...

Sure the idea I put forward has flaw but so has the championship we've been watching for an age. It is almost impossible to attain a level playing field in this sport but a higher turn over of riders would increase the chances of finding class riders and more would get an opportunity to ride this type of bike. 46

So you pick the best fruit at the end of the season, I'm sure this is the way team managers try to select their riders. What is in their interest to pick a poor rider ? That would make no sense.

No one has the crystal ball so you give a rider a chance. If after 3 seasons it becomes clear that they will not be good enough then you move them on.

Contributors on here suggest Elias is only improving now because it is contract signing time. With the idea I put forward this wouldn't apply. There would be a greater incentive to improve so you wouldn't lose the ride.

What is the point of watching Capirossi and Edwards etc year after year finishing mid pack ?

Mr Hyde - If I was baking an apple pie I would wait until the end of the season and only select the best fruit that had matured to full flavour. What you are saying is that you would pick all the rotten, grub riddled windfalls in the hope that one of them may turn out to be a good 'un. It is exactly this train of thought that allowed riders like DeAngelis, DePuniet and Elias to sneak into motoGP! :?
