Please lets not get carried away people. yes he has shown that he can win on a superbike. but look what happens when he is put under pressure. he seems not to like riders close to him. when he gets away in superbikes he can go, but put him in a dog fight and he's not so good. the added pressure and all the expectation on his young shoulders will be a big test. lets wait and see what happens when he starts to use his aggressive style in the motogp paddock. when toseland started out using the superbike aggression, he was critisised by the other riders which i think knocked his confidence big time.
say what you like about JT but he was the most successful british motogp rider (modern era)

He deserves that strong support as I said a bit earlier back I think he'll be a success in MotoGP.

he said 'no, we have four factory riders and four factory bikes'.
So what happened to adhering to the new rules, about no new riders not joining a factory team,
Good job Ducati did not make that statement.

If I was Yamaha, I'd play with this a bit.

Tell all the riders they have the same machinery.

However, this would be a lie, as I'd give Ben a *slightly* less optimum package that Valentino and Jorge for the first couple of races, and see how he copes. He'll push damn hard, and I'm pretty sure he'll do well and get close.

Then give him the same bike, but don't tell him. I reckon he'll then at least match or even beat them (as he'll still be pushing harder), and we'll see the other two raise their game so we have all three operating at the highest possible level.

Spies is no average rider bazzab. JT is a great chap, and a good rider, but as you say, if he doesn't have confidence, forget it.

Spies appears to have supreme confidence in his ability, its only the bike that matters.

Number one, his fight this year is with an on song Haga, whose also on a great bike, and who is certainly no mug (and who i hope wins the championship).

Number two, his previous fights were with Mladlin, who played with his head as well as being a brilliant rider.

It's only his size that could be a question mark, if he loses some weight but retains strength then I reckon spies is a match for Rossi and Lorenzo.

Rossi and Spies are of a similar height i think so no worries on that. I'd love to see Ben do well and it's nice to hear he is going to get some good support.
As for the comment re: factory bikes and it not being fair. There is a factory team and there is a satellite team and he has to go to the satellite one...there are no rules on what support that team get's. I'm not at all surprised to see that Yamaha will do their utmost to give him a decent bike as he has the potential to be very very good, even at GP level.
Hope it works out for Ben. JT didn't do well enough, thats a fact..let's see if Ben can do better. I'll miss him in WSB though..he is class

Not sure if Spies will shine in MotoGP. When he comes to GP at 26 next year, he'll be like a johnny-come-lately, and it will hard for him to adapt to the series. Stoner and Lorenzo had already tasted success at a much younger age than that.

In Motogp, a rider only had a single race to make the different and the pressure are high. It is not like in superbike race, there still a 2nd chance in race 2 to correct any mistakes if a rider had a bad result in race 1.
