How can a guy whos won 7 world titles, broke so many records came 2nd in the championship when the bike and or tires havnt been as competitive be ordinary? Every rider has commented that when they have been behind Rossi he looks like he is workin the bike and himself so hard to make what is a rubbish bike so competitive where is Colin and most of the other guys on mich's rubber? Too many people r talkin as if Rossi is past it, a has been. He still has World champs in him. He might win the title next year and everyone will remember just how good he really is, afterall a true champ is able to go through the bad times and still have the skill and passion to win at what they love to do the best.

Aussies are generally laid back, but there's also a "fair go" thing. And the constant unfair bashing one way, earned a back lash the other way.

Bottom line, as you acknowledge (but the one eyed Rossi fans don't) is he won it fair and square, if Rossi was ripped off then he's got enough stature and tenure in the sport to do something about it - he didn't need to sign for yamaha in 08 he could have signed for Ducati or Honda - any of the teams would have taken him. Lastly I think people need to look closely at the races- the one thing Stoner has done is not put a foot wrong. Unlike many he's not psyched out by Rossi, would Rossi beat him on same machinery really is conjecture.

It's fairly simple Grromm. After the constant Stoner bashing by the Rossi rogerers some of us got fed up. When people come up with every polemic imaginable to say Stoner didn't deserve to win, he got lucky blah blah blah. At some point some of us got fed up. Go back a couple of months on this board and have a look at the tone of the comments. Why shouldn't we defend him, he's being constantly unreasonably slammed by people upset because Rossi isn't winning. I've tried to keep my comments factual and unbiased (ie if its nothing to do with stoner why isn't Capi second every ra

All this talk about "Rossi is ordinary" is bollox - the story says that, because Rossi's tyres were *****, again, he was made to LOOK "relatively ordinary". There's no suggestion of Rossi being ordinary in terms of riding talent.

Rossi dropped 8seconds to Stoner in 16 laps at PI and lost second place in the process, which seems a 'relatively ordinary' performance to me (due to the tyres). I'd go further and say it was a ***** result - due to tyres - the Rossi of 2002-2006 would have been devastated to slip so far back.

If Hayden hadn't retired and Melandri not had tyre problems Rossi probably wouldn't have even got on the podium

As an Aussie it was great to have 3 riders in Sunday's race and Casey was truly amazing. The important human factor in a technology soup of tyres, engines and frames.

Anyway, having watched the race up close and personal Rossi still amazes me. The guy truly is a god, he was soooo smooth, so precise and with a package that couldn't match the Ducatis he left no one in any doubt that he could make the ordinary perform extra ordinarily. And he did it all without fuss. I can't say whether he's the greatest but I can say he's the best I've seen, and that's since 1972.

So I'm happy that an Aussie is world champion and know that he is worthy; that aside, Rossi definitely wasn't ordinary.

Hey Grromm...
Thanx for your respect to Ozzie riders from the past!!...
And for your positive comments on Casey, CV & Westy!..
We are relaxed, laidback folk!
We love Rossi, & the rest of the field... but..
We also love a local winner!!

But while our local Hero has done well this year,
All we hear from overseas is...
Booorriinng..
Yawn..
It' the bike not Casey.......
It's the Bridgestones not Casey....
He has unfair advantage.....

Maybe some Ozzies are sick of this & arguing back??..

Rossi will return next year with better machinery and tyres and we will see some excellent racing and yes it was extremely dissappointing to see him struggle this year, even though in reality he will surpass last years performance, if points are an indication. Stoner appears to have adapted from the beginning and others are now starting to perform better, however, even last year on a piece of crap, Stoner managed 8th place in the championship and it was his first year in the ivory league. As such, Stoner has raised the bar this year and everyone needs to catch up including the other Ducati riders. None of these racers should be denegrated, it's childish and in fact boarish. Bring on 2008!!

Grromm, the only way you will find out what Aussies are really like is to visit our fair land, you cannot draw conclusions from a dozen people on a public forum, Aussie's are not racialist's in fact our population is made from 142 other countries cultures, of all colours and creeds. On this forum anybody can claim to be an Aussie and nobody can prove otherwise a keyboard doesn't have an accent.
Lets get on with the Malasia GP,, rain tires and floaties will be important, a snorkel would be an advantage if the race starts after 3.30pm local :D

Grromm, I wouldn't worry too much about underestimating Australia or Australians. There is a thing called mateship, we defend our own and this is simply the case in this forum. Clearly some of the Aussie readers here have not enjoyed people bagging out Stoner for no good reason, when clearly he is the difference on the Ducati, otherwise as has been said over and over the other three Ducati would be 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the championship. Just watch Stoner, his bike bucks and weaves all over the place, his lines are on the edge, sure his tyres give him some confidence, which we don't deny. But in reality he is a champion. Don't get us all wrong, Rossi is also a champion's champion!!!

To the critics of Casey in interviews,to the critics of Dani in interviews,to the critics of all riders who do not handle interviews well YET, they are all great riders not politicians, can the critics remember how they handled their first public speaking engagement??? If you think the above riders are a bit iffy wait till you hear Westy the critics will have a field day. Just mentioning Westy's father got in a fight at PI, unfortunately West senior could not fight back being an ex professional boxer his fists are classified as a weapon in Australia
