How many times have we heard this during the season?
And regarding improvements from Yamaha, Rossi has to play his part. As lead team rider, Rossi is responsible for Yamaha bike and Michelin tyre development. Yet, he leaves development and testing to Edwards (who really lacks the capability to do this) whilst Rossi's off doing Ferrari tests, WRC drives, etc.
Then, Rossi (& his fans) have the cheek to blame Yamaha & Michelin for doing a bad job!!!
Basically, he has got exactly what he deserved. Rossi's lazy compared with someone like Hayden.
If Rossi dedicates himself 100% to bike development and testing, then perhaps he will have a decent package in 2008. After all, he's paid enough - he should put the work and effort in.

Comment by M. Arianto was well said. Actually the championship was lost by Valentino not by his fault because he still won some races. But clearly the rest of the riders did not pull their weight and evryone ofthem let Casey Stoner slip by and let rossi do all the work trying to win races and split the points. This includes Melandri, Toni elias, Nicky hayden , Colin Edwardsand the rest of the field including Kurtis Roberts. I just wonder WHY The Roberts Family even bother to show up for the Races. Hey if Lance Armstrong shows up on a TREK he will probably overtake Kurtis Roberts and Kenny Roberts Junior down the CorkScrew. As for Casey Moaner we have all seen one time world champions

to finish 2nd seems hardly something to be ashamed of.....besides, let's see where mr. stoner will be next year, does the name "hayden" ring a bell?

Historically/statistically V.Rossi is still #1 rider, D.Pedrosa is #2 and C.Stoner is #3, but if it is combined between riders, motors and tyres, C.Stoner, Ducati and Bridgestone is the best package. Looking at motor speed/power Ducati is the fastest/best, Honda is #2 and Yamaha is #3 ( comparing these 3 motors only ). Michelin is better tyre than Bridegestone on Qualifying tyre only ( this year ) but worse on race tyres. V.Rossi is the best on Michelin race tyre and D.Pedrosa is the best on Michelin Qualifiying tyre.

In regards to Laterrus's comment. I cannot totally agree with the Yamaha being one of the slowest bikes. I remember in preseason testing just how fast it was, and how it was regarded to as the fasterst cornering bike. The Ducatis did not go as fast in preseason, it was a battle between Suzuki and Yamaha the whole time. The problem for all other riders is that the Ducati stayed competitive and improved while the season went on, whereas Yamaha failed to recognise the main problems. One of them being the outdated engine (Spring Valves ??), and the other the tyres. Yamaha did not have the right package and the whole team is to blame.

What is all this talk about Yamaha on Birdgstones?? I thought that Bridgstone did not want to supply any other teams for next ye**** Unless Rossi has special privliges which by all means he deservs with his CV. I think he would definatelly be more competitive against other Bridgstone teams, just like he is the best of Michelin supported riders, but next year is next year. But if he is not leading the pack next year cant wait to hear the excuses that some fans will come up with

Dont forget that we will have Meladri and Elias on Bridgstones as well.

In response to Keihanna's comment 6 spots up, I agree 100%! The Shanghai race was PROOF that Rossi's skill is STILL above average! That race showed us all something, if you're gonna pass/beat Rossi, you'd better do it on the straights on a bike that is faster because, Rossi kept up with and passed Stoner all over that track in the curvy sections. It was on the straights where Stoner's bike was superb. As far as testing goes, I agree with "PK" on "No feedback, and the engineers are working in the dark." Rossi's talent of overriding a bike combined with the sometimes not recognized hard work of his Yamaha team has allowed him to stay 2nd in the Championship this year on a slower bike than C.S.

Interesting; Rossi has given me a lot of pleasure over the past 10 years or so and I would respectfully suggest that he is still the best rider out there......bar none. It is true that Rossi is not the only reason why MotoGP has become so popular (?) but he is certainly the overiding factor. Bike racing is about all sorts of things but good close racing is surely what we all want. Let's face it, in true racing spectacle terms this year has been the most boring for ages, certainly since the Doohan years. That's not taking anything away from the Stoner, Ducati, Bridgestone combination; they deserved the title...but it certainly was very tedious at times. Oh for the 990's and no T or LC!!

The views of some that Yamaha supply the parts and its their fault is nonsense. It's up to Rossi to test different parts and settings, and then give feedback for Yamaha to improve them and move in the right direction. No feedback, and the engineers are working in the dark.
And anyway, I don't believe the Yamaha is as bad as some try to make out. Just watching the Yamaha on the track, it is clearly more agile that the V4's including Stoner's Ducati, and the speed trap data from Sepang showed it was right up there in top speed.
And anyway, Rossi said when he left Honda to join Yamaha that it was the man not the machine that's important. I guess he was wrong then?

Rossi is nowhere near the only reason MotoGP is popular right now, that's total crap. I have to agree with those who question Rossi's motivation - after all, the conventional wisdom among his fans has always been that Rossi is the best development rider out there, especially since he has kept Burgess with him. So if he's so good, why is his riding package such *****? Rossi has always had mechanical advantages over the competition, and two years ago he lost them, mostly due to his own fault. Now he's just facing reality and his fans do not like it. I wish he would just retire gracefully and take his fans with him.
