Yep go back to the old rules so certain riders get special treatment with a special tire flown in over night specifically made for them. I guess this is how we can put Rossi's 5 premier class titles down to.

Funny that people say this year if things had been equal Rossi would have walked all over Stoner, well the tyres rules were equal for everyone and someone else won the championship.

How have they destroyed competition? Tyre brands can bring what tyres they want to races. All riders had to pick 31 tyres for a round. You would think someone who can set up a bike would have the advanatage.
I hope Michelin get thier act together in 08 and produce a superior tire to the Bridgestones

Hopefully these new tyre concessions will prevent poor racing like this year and more importantly prevent riders pushing too much (Rossi injury)to make up the difference. How poor would it be for the sport if the new riders coming in next year from 250 and WSBK had to deal with crap tyres as well as learn the 800 bikes. :)

Dorna should have put this rule back to the way it was. They have only gone half way back to save their embarressment
One of the best things about motogp is it's simplicity; no stupid rules like F1
This is the single reason why this season has been as it has.
Stoner can attribute his championship to it. De Puniet's relative success is the same
Rossi and Capirossi don't become 'also rans' over night.
Bridgestone have been improving for the last few years - but this rule really did it for them.

Great comment Damian,

Prototype class means prototype, for tyres too,
these half-half desicions destroy competition.
Does this mean that they still have to decide what tyres they use on thursday
before the race? Then it's acrap rule.
I'm sad to see Dunlop go, they are just getting under steam

Rossi should switch to Dunlops.
Its constantly been used as the excuse this year that the Yamaha/Michelin combination doesn't work.
Well, Guintoli showed today that Yamaha/Dunlop works pretty well, way better than the factory boys.
Problem solved.

I bet Stoner is breathing a sigh of relief. If motogp had gone to the control tyre and michelin had got the gig, I think he would have had to invest some of his new found wealth in a bucket and spade to dig himself out of the kitty litter.

Here is a stat for you. 2006 biggest crashers in motogp, Randy de Puniet (14) and Casey Stoner (14). Tied at the top! When did he stop crashing Almost exactly one year ago when he tested the Ducati and Bridgestones for the first time.

Make no mistake, he is incredibly fast and a deserving champion (he made the absolute best of what he had) but even the most blinkered fan cannot ignore this small detail.

Rubbish jh.
Ducati are quite happy that Rossi is going to Bridgestone so that he no longer can offer that as an excuse.
Rossi will get smoked next year, he won't even be in the top three of the championship.

jh, You are an idiot. How many times does someone have to tell you about 3rd rate satellite honda's and 3rd rate michelins. Oh and first year in MotoGP.
Rossi has 5 Premier class WC's yet you use the excuse of tyres and bike for his not being able to run at the front but blame Stoner for crashing with far inferior package to what Rossi has this year.
All the f'ing cry babies about Rossi having to push to hard and crashes. What does everyone else run around at 95%? You Rossi gay boys always say Rossi can ride around problems well guess what he CAN'T! Rossi has not lost his talent he has lost his confidence. Any one with half a brain can tell that.

I agree that Casey is a deserved winner, just like Nicky last year. The simple fact is he scored more points than anyone else.
He struck gold, he hit the rich stream. The combination fell into place for him - no more than Damon Hill years ago and Lewis this year.
Motogp is the best sport on the planet (and i'm not a recent convert!) It is because the fundamental rules are simple; one hour to qualify (no limits or superpole etc) and the race is even simpler - tyres, fuel green light - off you go lads, first one back is the winner.
It's expensive yes but while it's popular there's money avaiable. They're about to take it to heartland USA next season - they can't afford to mess that up
