Kevins number 34 was the ONLY number to be RETIRED in the premier motogp class. Sheenes number 7 was never retired so I dont know where you're getting that info. Dovi can use that number during all testing but will change once the season gets underway.

Very good going by Dovi,

looks like he has to get used to qualifiers because he only gained just over half a second with it, but he will learn.
Race pace is more important at the moment.
Same goes for Lorenzo, I'm not a fan but you have to hand it to him, he does good work on that Yamaha.
These two guys may be fighting for a podium in their first season ;)

Morgue

I think you're right, although I still rate Dovi higher than Jorge. To see them fighting on more equal machinery will be a joy to watch.

Chu, it's still very early days. Both are still getting to grips with their new machines. Maybe Jorge is different, but other Yamaha riders have seemed not to be able to get the best out of the bike like Rossi has been able to. It is much more likely to see a gaggle of Honda's just below the leaders than a gaggle of yamaha's.

Of course, I may be totally wrong, which can happen to all of us.

sure Calvin, i take these tests dont mean much , except if your results are really disastrous - but i think lorenzo s disadvantage on the m1 will be bigger than the one dovi had last year. at the end of the day, he inherited the bike on which dani whooped the 250cc class two years in a row.

just note tha JL usually ytakes a while to get to grips with his bikes ... he s surprisingly quick quite early on the m1 ...

yeah, but the Aprilia had move on development wise whereas the Honda was stuck in development limbo.

Anyway, it's only testing and they each have their own testing programmes to run, which may not be condusive to out and out quick times.

Is Dovi going to use number 34 next year? I thought there was some sort of agreement that no-one will use 34 - as a respect to Kevin Schwantz?

Yeah, interesting on one of these pictures you see him actually riding around with 34...
we'll see what he comes up with next year.
Interesting guy, looks a bit like Rossi too with the curly head and open face. :)

Yeah, 34 was reserved. Then again, No 7 was reserved when Barry Sheene died, yet Carlos Chukka used it. I guess they have short memories...

Dovizioso will visit the podium regularly next year, with the permission of Rossi, Pedrosa and Stoner. I hope that he wins one or more races next year, he has such a fine riding style.
