Steady on Tonyed! It's not like Stoner is complaining about his income (that I'm aware of anyway).

If we were back in 'yesteryear' Stoner would probably have paid to race just like those 'great men'?!.... and I'm sure all of those 'great men' would be getting paid millions if they were racing now... Just the way it is.

At least the motorsport guys can justify their money in terms of putting their life on the line.

Stoner's day will come. Soon.
It's amazing to me, but really not very surprising, that Chad Reed would earn substantially more that Mat Mladin. Mladin is a 6-time Superbike champ and undisputed all-time great in the AMA Superbike series while Reed, a former champ, is a top contender but not by any stretch the dominant rider in the AMA Supercross.Motocross series.
It speaks to the way that Supercross and Motocross are run and promoted in the USA - you see these guys everywhere on TV hawking video games and sports drinks. It takes an effort just to find roadracing on television here in the USA.
The AMA's failure to promote roadracing trickles up to MotoGP. Thank goodness for the internet.

4.2m is not to be sniffed at!... I personally don't like Casey Stoner, but hes achieved something far greater by winning the MotoGP championship than playing a GAME like golf and just hitting a little ball about... Hopefully the money doesn't mean anough to him for that to bother him! can't wait for the Rossi v Stoner showdown for 2008!

My heart bleeds for him. I'll have a whip round here at work so we can get him a food parcel out prior to Christmas.
Ask the great men of yesteryear who normally paid for the 'privilege' of racing in GPs if they would have likes a few of those millions. In this world of violently inflated 'rewards' I suppose he must be disappointed!
Put in on a mid 90s 500 and then lets see how good he is, then he might earn his money instead of the electronic and tyre companies earning it for him.

I dare say he'll be on a far bigger wedge next year, afterall 4.2M for a 2nd year in MotoGP and a 1st year with Ducati is good going by anyone's standards! Especially seeing as how he was 2nd or 3rd choice to fill the seat! Coming of the back of a Rookie year on Honda's and having a reputation as a "bit of a crasher" (which he's now ditched thanks to tyres that he can rely on) I think he's done very well out of this year...

Stoner is and will be the lowest paid worldchampion. Ducati got a great deal when they offered him $750,000 for 07 with an their option to take him in 08 if he was in the top 3 for $1,500,000 US dallars, So at Donington his dad resinged for 08 locked in to $1.5 WOW thats loads. (Thanks Dad) Ducati was laughing all the way to the bank, they won the title and got to pay him in USD$. (strong curency)

Now Melandri on the other hand is getting paid for his Ducati contract in Euros I might add to the sum of 3,000,000 that is $4,400,000. Why you might ask? Well besides having the right passport there is a rumore his manager is in cahoots with Ducati's Team manager, did somebody say backhander
