MOTOGP » Rossi raises pace with pneumatic engine

Valentino Rossi continued work on Yamaha's rejuvenated pneumatic-valve project during day two at Sepang - which he finished in a promising third position, on a race tyre, having lapped just 0.298secs from Randy de Puniet's qualifying run.

Yes, Jorge Lorenzo used to ride with #48 but in the last years we only saw him with #1 so you tend to forget ;-)

His golden helmet design is a hint to his personal sponsor 'Chupa Chups', a famous Spanish lollipop brand that also sponsored Emilio Alzamora in the past. They come in many different flavours (very good actually, not overly sweet) and can be recognized by the colourfull wrapper (they sell in singles) with the brand logo on top.
The helmet design is an exact replica of that wrapper, you can actually see wrinkles at the sides and the logo on top, just like the real thing.
It is also why he (and Alzamora before him) are having a lollipop in their mouth at podium ceremonies.

Valentino Rossi wears the Aboriginee inspired helmet since Philip Island 2007,
you Australians should be proud that he honours your country in such a special way :)

It is handmade by Aldo Drudi (search for drudiperformance) who has been active in the racing world for years, donig helmet designs for the likes of Schantz, Doohan, Mamola, Rossi as well as bikes (special painted 1098 tricolore Ducati) and teams.

Gina was right: It IS Rossi. He is testing the golden colour: It goes on the bike at Brno when he seals the championship.
