Screamer = lots of little bangs (say 4 in a 360' crank cycle)), Big Bang = less bangs but the bang is way bigger (like 2 in a 180' crank cycle)

Imagine a 4cyl motor, a screamer fires all cylnders evenly accross the crankshaft (4cyl roadbikes)
Imagine a 4cyl motor, A big bang fires 2 cylinders close together, turns the crank 180' and fires the other 2 cylinders close together. Kinda like a Ducati L2 but with a 4cyl where 2cyl are pair'd to act like 1....1 big one
Its said a screamer aplys constant drive to the wheels, a big bang provides a longer rest period between pulses and that is easier on tyres, wheel spin is easier to control and corner drive is less violent.....in a nut shell

Poor Honda, they are strugling to get their first pneumatic valve engine going, and Kawi is already working on another one.
I''d love to find some sound clips of the 800 screamer.

I'm hoping more teams will opt for screamers. The big-bangs sound so damn dull. Almost like a twin.

Somebody please explain what exactly constitutes a "screamer" engine. What's the difference between it and a big bang engine?

Simply put the 'screamer' engine is just like the engine of a 4 cylinder familycar,
to make it a big bang the engine stays the same, just the ignition moments (the sparks from the spark plugs) are changed.
The variation in pulses is not per se easier on the tyres, it gives a different wear characteristic,
either system can also generate chatter, It has effect on the chassis, in short it is adifferent way of riding a bike alltogether.
What is interesting about the Kawasaki test is that they do the same thing now as Yamaha did in 2004 when Rossi came, compare the two systems.

Kwasaki are doing the opposite of Yamaha in 04 Not the same!!
Yamaha had a screamer inline 4 in 03.
They changed to a big bang with VR in 04 with GB.
To have a smoother power delivery, a virtual V4.
To compete with the V5 Honda & the V4 Ducati.
Ducati changed from twin pulse to a V4 screemer with the 800s.
Kawasaki are saying that they had a big bang inline 4..
& are now testing a screamer

I am not trying to be smart as I do not much about these modern motors I thought the big bang motor was a cross fire ignition, and the screamer motor didn't have any 2 pistons on Top Dead Centre at the same time, is this the way these motors work if not what is the firing order and what is which please????

That's what I said Johnny, they c o m p a r e the two systems, like Yamaha did,
you're right about the outcome being the opposite. I gather from the statements of Kawasaki is that it is just an evaluation,
I would like to hear that thing scream though :p :p
Rossi coming from a Honda with a V engine found the characteristic of the big bang more to his liking,
which is probably why e also asked for Yamaha to develop a V4 last year.
However Furusawa wants to stick to the inline four.
