Screamer = lots of little bangs (say 4 in a 360' crank cycle)), Big Bang = less bangs but the bang is way bigger (like 2 in a 180' crank cycle)

Imagine a 4cyl motor, a screamer fires all cylnders evenly accross the crankshaft (4cyl roadbikes)
Imagine a 4cyl motor, A big bang fires 2 cylinders close together, turns the crank 180' and fires the other 2 cylinders close together. Kinda like a Ducati L2 but with a 4cyl where 2cyl are pair'd to act like 1....1 big one
Its said a screamer aplys constant drive to the wheels, a big bang provides a longer rest period between pulses and that is easier on tyres, wheel spin is easier to control and corner drive is less violent.....in a nut shell

The crankshafts are the same, the firing order differs.
A standard inline-four (screamer) fires its cylinders at regular intervals - one cylinder every 180 degrees of crank rotation.
The big bang engine fires two cylinders close together, followed by a long break, then the other two cylinders in close succession, then another long break before the cycle begins again

I didn't actually know the 800 Kwasaki was a big bang...07
I'm sure the 990 Kwaka of 06 was a screamer though....
I was @ PI & it was the loudest, highest pitch bike there...

If you have a screamer, you can adjust the timing so much to get the firing order like a big bang, If want a real big bang engine a new crank shaft is needed, not to mention timing and cams.....or what ever control a air valve on a motogp bike.

Best sounding MotoGp engine ever has to be the Aprilia RS3, My god! I remember hearing it shifting down into the Melbourne loop in 2002. There is a vid on youtube;

Doesn't do it justice, the thing sounded like an animal and although Sheeite I wish it was still on the grid.

Abstract US Patent 7063059
A multi-cylinder four-stroke internal combustion engine enabling a method for on-the-fly switching between two or more firing orders. Switching to the new firing order is done without requiring any tear-down of the engine such as to swap camshafts. Switching can be triggered by the rider, or it can be triggered automatically per conditions such as selected gear, RPM range, track location, velocity, and the like.
