Thanks for the info 'Me' I never realised Greg Hansford was a gun on 2 wheels before turning to 4. Was very sad time when he passed, as it was again in '06' when the mountain claimed Mr Porter.:(

Your right JH, the local boy i'm talking about was as quick as they come but did stupid things like trying to set lap records on the last lap and stacking while out miles in front. He also competed in a local speedway event braking his arm costing him another Oz title. Had the speed and ability but not the right brain power and guidance!

Morgue. Cigarettes and booze still sponsers because they still have the money to do so but I agree with you (there you go Ocker) they are a dying breed. Maybe with all the electronics dominating the sport now thing could move in this direction. It really needs a company chairman with an interest or at least some vision (Branson/Virgin in the UK for example).

I think your right OZ Velly (about why you guys do so well in bike racing). To get noticed you need to try extra hard. If you were spoilt like many other countries with sponsership you might get a little too comfortable.

That said, not everybody who shows local talent can make the move to an international level. There is more to it (cultural differences, homesickness, maybe thay are just not that good).

Thats the sad sorry state of motorsport here! I'm from the so called home of motorsport in Oz (Bathurst) and most people here frown upon the sport. If it wasn't for Yellow Pages and David Campezie Mark Webber would never be in F1. For that reason those that make from oz go so well because of what they had to do to get there. And there is lots of talent that never gets there. A local Bathurst boy use to race against Ant West and beat him on a showroom bike! And he still holds the lap records at a few Aust tracks. His family never had the cash

West,
Baylis,
Mcoy,

Gobert,
Magee,
