i laugh every time someone mention banning electronics in motorsport.

firstly, electronics are there for all the rides; melandri is on the same bike and is struggling (which to be completely honest has really surprised me). the playing field is level.

secondly, it's like the argument in F1 where people argue that in the 60-70's where we had 4 wheel drift, powerslides etc that the racing was more exciting, and that electronics are to blame. technology moves forward and Dorna/F1 would be sticking their heads in the sand if they didn't embrace these new technologies.

the bottom line is: anything that makes lap times lower is progress. the best riders/drivers will always rise to the top.

Gromm, Rossi takes a long time to speed up because of his preference for hard tyres, Michilen built realy hard tyre for Rossi that no one else got, so when after 10 laps everyones tyres go off Rossi's come on and he can check out making everyone look stupid, when all along Rossi had tyre built to last longr than the rest.....A-tyres baby, A-tyres. ;)

Sorry for the late reply, been busy.

You would have to be an ostrich to argue that the best did not always finish first in 07!
I reckon 2000-05 that you could deffinetely argue the point also.... that said even though rossi had the better tyres consistently the clown should of still been better than 99.9% of the others anyway simply no big challenge till tyre equality in 06 and then Casey arrives in 07 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH wake up call!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

You may read in my post whatever you want Parker, I'm trying to stay away from terms as 'good' or 'best rider'
because that is an endless discussion that no one ever get's out of.
Giacomo Agostini will come up again... people will say the MV's were unbeatable at the time etc. etc. it never ends.

You can argue that the best is always the one that ends first
you can also argue that they screwed up the formula.

Re- Stoner late grid up...Obvious adavantages with this tactic are warmer tyres and brakes, cooler engine and possibly clutch and lastly slower warm up lap pace equals more fuel for race. Smart move!

Benito- yer ok :?

Morgue, I agree with your summuray of Rossi's race tactics as I made a similar summary. And I was referring to it as being exciting for the fans. I also referred to it as masking the disparity in machinery in years past. My point was all the excuses as to TC etc determining race results is not necessarily correct as I think it is rider style that is determining the excitement factor of results. I am surprised that you keep ignoring rider style and even then suggest that Doohan only won because of 'better' machinery.
Finally, you imply that because they try and succeed in clearing out they are not as good a racer when really it is only they are less entertaining.

Duke..MotoGP racing is a lot closer than results indicate. The Stoner Ducati B/S Shell package were the only ones getting close to 100% from their race package in 2007. If Ducati have made gains in fuel economy they will be able to race without those fuel saving race laps and as such may be up to three seconds plus faster over race distance. Make no mistake about it 2008 races should become a sprint from flag to flag with every lap being like a qualifying lap but to get full advantage from this you have to be at the front from the first lap. This is where Stoner comes in with his ability to go flat out on colder tyres in those first few laps. Rider fitness will also be paramount in 2008.

The Stoner - Doohan analogy is an interesting one as Doohan too was presumed to have the fastest bike in his winning years (you will probably deny that) and it gave him the opportunity to clear off at will. All they do is try and get trough the first lap in one piece, pass the lot on the mainstraight on topspeed and start running metronomelike laptimes when at the front.
They race the clock, not the others. I sure hope we get some decent battles in 2008 for it means that there is at least some degree of parity in the material they have at their disposal.

Parker and Ace,

I have made a description of Rossis racing style as I percieve it, without the quality of machinery put into the equasion.
If you want to translate that to 'best' or 'worse' then that's completely up to you.
He has a big racing heart and takes pride in a good battle. The moment of attack is mostly determinded by assessing the situation around him and relating it to his race pace. In that he is very intelligent. He can make the most of mediocre equipment as shown last season when he was up against people with a far better package than the M1 on Michelins.
