since we are going down memory lane and everyone is so keen to bash Nicky, i seem to remember the angry smurf had his fair share of problem with the "pedrosa bike" as well. And the ONLY reason he took second was because Rossi had engine problems at Valencia not because he was such a talented rider.

Not to mention he had his fair share of crashes and poor decisions. So for a guy with such talent on a bike specifically designed & developed for him, he definitely screwed the pooch.

If Nicky had the proper bike, and support from Honda he would have EASILY been in the top 5. if not the top 3.

No matter how much you hate on Nicky, he STILL better then 3/4 of the current riders.

GO NICKY!!!

MOTOGP » Hayden fast but frustrated

Nicky Hayden once again indicated that the new Honda RC212V is as good as anything - with the notable exception of Casey Stoner - on qualifying tyres, by leaving Phillip Island with the second fastest lap time.

No one doupts Pete Benson's abillity, so what gives, Michilen I understand, but Honda.....something is up with that, Im gonna go out on a limb and say i think HRC flushed the good engineers for fresh ones and its not working, Honda Have a revolving door policy where it comes to Honda & HRC engineers.

looks to me like they have an obligation to the satellite teams to keep developing the spring-valver, but they know they need to be working on the air-valver. My guess, and I think this is the wrong way to go about it, is that once the season starts, Hayden and Co. will focus 100% on the air-valver and get it where it needs to be. The problem with that is once again, NH will start the season off behind the ball using a lab bike, while his teamate and the satellite boys will be getting the results.

Isn't it amazing that a big factory like Honda can find itself in this situation, walking behind,
just like in 2007?

considering how conservative Honda is as a company their results really don't surprise me. Even when they raced the 07 blade in the various series ie; ama, bsb, ect, they were consistently out paced by the Suzuki's and only made marginal improvements. The only exception was Ten Kate Honda in wsbk because their not a true HRC shop.

Honda under estimated the other manufactures and their resolve in the 800cc era especially the little factory from Italy. Even Kawasaki is coming up to speed faster then Honda with their ZXRR development. Lets also not forget that most teams are improving on their 07 racers and since the "perdosa" bike was such a massive failure the 08 RVC is all new.

HRC is completely lost since Rossi is gone actually!
Hayden got the title in 2006 but then mainly because Rossi had so many problems, and the other factories were focussing on the 800cc switch...

The 2007 Pedrobike was a complete failure, but at least it was progressing. Now that Hayden is alone for testing, nobody knows what to do in the Repsol box!!! Hayden switches from spring valves to air valves, tries hundreds of tires, and is unable to improve his laptimes...

God knows I hate Pedrosa and respect Hayden, but hey!, it seems that Dani is spot on when he claims leaving the development of the RCV in Nicky's hands is worrying...

Interesting indeed...

Honda was really spoiled in the 990 era because they had a proven championship winning racer. They let their arrogance get the best of them and now they are far behind the 8 ball. Let also not forget that the lack of team work in Repsol is a huge factor in their results. Its a proven fact that when teams don't function as a cohesive unit, they usually get fair or poor results.

Until HRC address the Perdosa & Puige/ Hayden - animosity / ego issue then Repsol will never perform at their highest potential. And they will continue to have the problems they have now. Repsol might was well be 2 teams, Repsol USA and Repsol Spain. And neither team is working with the other.

Here we go again. Hayden trying to figure out what went wrong. Got his title by default that Rossi's yamaha cra pped out on rossi many times that year. So he got his real title in 07 Number 8. He was so eager to put on that plate. Now he has to take it down. I wonder if he will go back to the 69. hahahaha. Well now that KJR is not there anymore he will probably take over Kenny roberts jr's title now. I bet he will slip further this year to maybe 11th if he is lucky.

As I recall, Pedrosa was runner up last year on the crap RC212V. So, despite Honda getting it wrong from the start, they did prove that they could get there act together to some degree whereas many of the other factory efforts, save for Kawasaki, seemed to go backwards last year. Nicky had a tough year. If it wasn't bike woes, someone was running into him. That's racing. While he may not be as talented as a couple other riders on the grid, consistency, hard work effort and having the right attitude count for something. All that being said, Stoner and Ducati are clearly the rider bike combo to beat. That's the most significant thing about the 800cc era. Minus him, results are like before.
