I never thought I'd say this about a top Japanese bike racing boss, but I quite like this Furusawa. He comes across quite well, bit of a sense of humour and isn't shy with the technical info. Also, when was the last time a HRC official (for exmaple) said he had respect for a rider's style and wouldn't ask him to change it to suit the bike unless he had to? (As Furusawa said about Lorenzo).

be interesting to see if the other teams have found more or less than the 5 extra horsepower yamaha will have this weekend at Jerez. Guess we'll be able to tell by seeing if the top speed order (factory bikes) is still roughly: 1) Ducati 2) Honda/Kawasaki(?) 3) Suzuki/Yamaha.

"We have added five 'ponies' compared to last year's engine, but we will need another three or four by the first race" - Masao Furusawa.

I think that's what he's saying Rico: They have 5 more now, BUT are aiming to have a further 3-4 on top of that by the first race. So 8-9 hp more in total over the '07. But as you say it all depends on what the other manufacturers have found...

Surely the Bridgestones will give him the equivalent off a couple of ponies, too!

The numbers are irrelevant. Tell us how many tenths per KM these engine improvements will gain in a straight line(Yamaha should already know). All the rest is spin where any real gain could really be coming from tyres. Sounds to me that Yamaha have made gains in tyres and chassis and will try an attribute that to engine improvements to avoid investing in a totally new engine package.
Let's be blunt here, last year all Rossi's good work through the twisty bits were well and truly lost(and more)in a straight line. Did Yamaha have the weakest straight line performance in 2007? Having said that Rossi should do well in 2008 in spite of engine performance.

About 230 rwhp. I would Imagin the yamaha has just reached that figure or is a bit shy of it.

You know, technically speaking, getting more power out of the engine isn't really hard to do...it's making that power *usable* that's tricky...

Great to see that Yamaha's improving and looks to stand an even chance this year...
