Another evil idea from HRC, they can't make a decent 2 stroke and now try to shove this "prototipe" idea in our throats. I hate Hondas and i honestly hate HRC, 250 s are ideal for the porpouse, HRC sucks.

MOTOGP » MSMA wants 600cc to replace 250GP

600cc four-cylinder four-strokes to replace 250cc two-strokes from 2011? How will FGSport react?

600cc is not that far off 800cc. The most likely scenario is this would encourage ''scaled-down'' MotoGP bikes from the main manufacturers, hardly something to keep costs under control and help smaller manufacturers enter the series.
And it would be huge jump for a 125cc rider to move straight up to 600cc. Or is this just the first step before ditching 125''s and having an ''entry'' class of 400cc or similar?
There really is nothing wrong with the current 125 & 250 classes - usually they offer the closest racing of the meeting. This is just Honda once again trying to pull the strings coz they don''t like 2 strokes (probably coz they can''t make them as good as Aprilia & KTM).

It smells like FgSport will replace 600 class SSP to higher but I don''t think that it will be 750cc  but Ducati with model 848 have something to say now.
By the way, it''s not good that we have only WSSP 600 & WSBK1000/1200 it would be nice to have also mid 750cc class. Great alternative to MotoGP idea!!!

post scriptum: will GP 600cc class be faster than 250cc 2stroke? so close to 800, too close.

It would not be unlikely for the 600cc class to be just as fast or faster than 800cc when this is about pure prototype racing. Mindboggling corner speeds....
So three problems:
600cc stock /supersport will conflict with current FIM Supersport
600cc prototype can come too close to 800cc prototype
600cc prototype will be more expensive than 250cc twostroke and add nothing to development.

600cc prototype is only affordable if you rev limit the engines and use a stock chassis. But that would not really be prototype anymore, now would it?

What is starts to look like is that manufacturers want to get rid of dual championships in some political way and ditch the WSBK/SS expense.

According to Julian Ryder there will be rev limiting and a weight requirement. Still, conflict with WSS is clear. Progress or regress?

Not a good idea. 500 twins seems more like it for a protoype class.

For me 2stroke era should be ended few years ago but with what HRC or FIM want to replace it is just up to something. I don't like it. No 600cc. 500cc class would be just fit, and even not 2cylinder, why not 500cc 4cylinder engine? 800, 500, 300 it seems right. I think if they want to reduce costs with their plan it won't work. MotoGP is about progress, developement, prototypes not regress and decreaising revs!!! Thing about it.

2-strokes are far more costly to maintain & far less environmentally correct, hence the move to 4-strokes.
The MX equation of 125cc 2-stroke = 250cc 4-stroke / 250cc 2-stroke = 450cc 4-stroke worked quite nicely during their crossover phase, so why not follow the same route? 450cc 4-strokes wont confuse the issue with production 600's, & are far enough off the 800cc MotoGP bikes not to have similar lap times.

Remember, this is just the proposal by MSMA. I doubt FIM will agree to it. 600c prototypes could even be faster than the MotoGP 800's on certain tracks under certain conditions.

"2-strokes are far more costly to maintain" - not sure that's true Dice. Two stokes have far less moving parts than four strokes and if they go wrong it's a hell of a lot cheaper to fix/rebuild.
