A fair assumption of one of the best tactical races i have seen in a long, long time, both Stoner and rossi used their strengths to try to win the race.

I just wish Stoner would accept the fact, that he was beaten by a better rider/tactic today, pity we have to wait until the 17th August, i hope it will be as thrilling as todays race.

Being a GP fan for longer than i care to mention, the sport needs atleast two riders who will hang it out there for the ultimate prize, i''ve seen the Spencer / Roberts, Gardner, Doohan, Rainey, Schwantz, Lawson battles produce some of the best racing i have ever seen, let''s hope this cycle is beginning again.

Having followed Valentino''s career since he was 19 and having now recognised Stoner as a great rider I think the difference is, in all my years following Moto GP , I have never heard Valentino make dereogatory comments. He has great respect for his fellow riders. What Casey needs to learn is that a true champion whether he is"pushed" or not requires a calm and focussed response. That,s why Rossi is the champion he is.Casey no doubt will inherit his crown but needs to stand back and take stock. Goood luck for the future Casey but my money is on Valentino this year. PS. YAM need to step up to the mark with the bike. Valentino is amazing but even he can''t fly.!!!

Could Casey Stoner's advantage simply come down to his receiving a superior (Bridgestone) tire to any other racer (Think about it: Why else would Casey be so sure that Vale simply could not compete for first)? Thanks.

It just shows you how good Rossi is though, Stoner had to have a 3/4 second a lap advantage to make a race of it.... I hope yam don't do the usual and rely on VR to make the difference cause on most of the tracks now you can't beat horsepower...

in the end it doesn't matter who has what in terms of machine package, all we really wont to see is a great battle with plenty of overtaking and hard racing. a bit of controversy doesn't hurt either. take the last several races, processional stuff and would be so regardless of who was leading/winning. laguna seca was edge of the seat racing and is with out doubt the bast race since assen last year(in my opinion) but certainly any race this year. :)

It's obviously sour grapes from Stoner as he can push back. Look at the overtaking manouver he pulled off early in the race going up the hill to the corkscrew. He got more drive out of the turn went to the outside and forced Rossi out of the way by leaning on him. The guys just a bad loser and when Ducati lose their advantage he'll fall back down the ranks.
Have a look at his first season in GP he fell off the Honda LCR 5 times and was around 6th which was good in most other races. Compare this to Capirossi and Melandri in the same year and then wonder why they can't get the same performance out of the Ducati.
We'll see if seti or as rumoured Hayden can do any better on it.
Mostly bike!

I watched the race live from the corkscrew and it was awsome, when I returned home I watched the race on MotoGp web site I tried to see where Rossi was being dangerous and could not see one pass or anything other than hard racing. The pass in the corkscrew was even more exciting watching it for the second and third time Rossi was lucky he did not take himself and stoner out but hey what good dirt tracking skills stoner needs to grow up I guess he has not heard what happened to biaggi or sete good luck to stoner I hope Rossi did not put a hex on you hahahahahahah :)

the current crop of youngguns riders have already proven that they are as good as rossi when it comes to riding the CURRENT bike. we may complain that rossi is better with the NSR500, or the 990, or anything.. but that is beside the point. they wont race the nsr500 again nor the 990. they are racing the 800. they may need to learn how to dice, or to break the opposition early, or anything. they just need to win. let us not complain how they do it, nor whether rossi can do better if without TC, or electronics. The challenge that the youngsters is facing is how to win with the 800. they are learning their own lesson, not rossi's lesson.

but due to the inherent disadvantage that the M1 has, he needs other tactics. so he added another tactic, mind games... he played with biaggi and gibernaus' mind... he even made good with the promise that sete wont win again, thus sete was hexed.. hehehehe.
and he is trying to do the same with stoner.

but the point is, rossi became so good because of the competitions and situations that he passed along the way. his racecraft was borne out of necessity, and his tricks was picked up along the way.

the new generation of riders have no fault for not being able to do what he have done because they are not in the same situation. they only need to do something, to win.
