Well, who the heck cares anyway?
The Kawasaki is a useless machine.
Get a no-hoper Spaniard on it, and run around the back as a low-cost mobile billboard for a Spanish sponsor who hasn't got the wherewithall to run up with the big boys.
As I say, who cares?

All they had to do is teach Nakano Spanish :p
Seriously though, it is a pity as far as grid numbers are concerned but it would probably be another backmarker
the way Kawasaki are going at the moment. Besides that it was a deal that was heavily sponsored by Dorna as well and that could be called unfair competition. They''ll do anything to bring more Spaniards to MotoGP.

Aspar looked for Spaniards to ride ZX-RR but nobody is fool to plunge it's careere like Kawasaki made for West.
I wonder if Aspar as a premier class team in 125cc & 250cc would brought ZX-RR on top or even on the mid?
Looking at the factory Kawasaki team progress it sounds impossible or very difficult so now with probably fifth and sixth Yamaha on the grid in 2010 Aspar can make huge debut in motogp as well as Yamaha progressing their bikes. Nakano lost his rider careere but changing uncompetitve Kawasaki to be a test rider for Honda isn't a bad idea for him.

Kawasaki shot themselves in the foot there with insisting on Nakano while it was clear that Aspar can only run with a Spanish rider due to the sponsors. I believe a third bike under the watchful eye of a successful team owner like Aspar could have brought Kawasaki some useful data.
But anyway, it's probably better for Aspar this way as the Kawa is not really the best machine to enter the big class with and the outlook of a factory Yamaha in 2010 looks much more promising for some good results. Can't wait to see that.

Better Kawasaki at first build their own bike & team to prove ZX-RR is a good project and than talk seriously with people like Aspar. Some times Japaneses are silly with their patriotism. Spanish sponsors should learn this lesson too:)

If Yamaha can supply bikes to the same spec as its works machines to an Aspar team as well as for Toseland and Edwards (appreciating they will fall behind in development as the year progresses), and possibly others too in the future, Yamaha could save the class before Dorna wrecks it completely. It will be like the TZ era all over again. Bloody marvellous!

Just shows the Japanese run the sport, Dorna have no leverage because all it would take is one factory to get pissed off at them then quit, especially if that was Honda. When factories control the sport, it is difficult, if not impossible for it to grow. Saying that, who really needs another backmaker, they would not get on tv anyhow and the sponsor would end up leaving at some point, so Aspar should be happy that painful process did not get started with Kawasaki.

Even though the two parties were s far apart the top division NEEDS more bikes. After all, we know that the grid was changed to 3 bikes per row to make the field appear bigger and not for any other reason! Dorna and the FIM should be falling over themselves to lure more bikes and riders into the premier class. The 125 race has twice as many rows as the premier class despite there being 4 bikes per row! Something needs to be done, if any of the manufacturers that field customer or 'supported' teams decide to withraw or only concentrate on their own works team it would be a disaster!

Alan P.
These days even the factory supported privateer teams are screwed because of the electronics, back in the 500 era a team could rejet, take a grinder to the ports, weld up a new expansion chamber, even change the frame geometry to suit a rider, no can do now and the factories control who gets what and it's all too expensive without major sponsors.
I wish it wasn't so but it is,Dorna should be doing everything it can to attract MAJOR sponsors worldwide and the move for more races in the USA might not work now with the money crisis there sadly..

Cheers.
