Although Valentino Rossi''s accomplishment for the past 5 years speaks volumes over the others, this will simply be a popularity contest and Rossi will win by a great margin.

I think it may just be a case of who has the most fans willing to go and vote. I think Dovi is likely to do well in this though. A pretty nuetral rider in terms of fans, everyone seems to think hes done a great job, which he has!, so I think he will be one of the best riders this year. I wonder if he will get less popular when hes at repsol beating people to top spot?!!

I think Rossi has been hands down superb this year and deserves the spot. Dovi had a great all-round year, Edwards had a fantastic first half of season as did Toseland, both picked up again towards the end of the year. Hayden had a fantastic second half. Pedrosa a great first half with the 8 podiums of 9 starts. Stoner had a fantastic comeback but slipped up at Laguna onwards, got it back at the end though. Still, Rossi's consistency this year and constant winning was a masterclass.

Randy de puniet for not really injuring himself and finishing races at the end of the season

No seriously though jorge for coming back with confidence after those nasty crashes. In fact they all deserve our respect for going out and competing all year.

"this will simply be a popularity contest and Rossi will win by a great margin. "

The usual Rossi sheep will rank him 10/10 every year no matter what, but at least this year he deserves it.

I'm an aussie and cheer for Casey, but he still had to settle for second best in my book. Dovi got my next vote. Lorenzo may have won a race, but all things considered I think Dovi had the more impressive year.

Rossi for the way he fought when he has very little left to prove, Lorenzo and Dovi would be my next choice as the most promising new comers. unluckiest rider would be Guintoli for loosing his ride and the luckiest would be De Angelis for still having a moto Gp ride!

Rossi hands down the best this year and best MotoGP rider in History based on wins. He was the best rider even in the two years he didn't win the championship because he rode like a champion and never gave up and always gave it all he could on the track no matter the adversity. If he had the machinery and tires I have no doubt he would have won those two championships as well.

However other notables this year were Lorenzo and Dovi.

So we will quickly recap. Rossi/Yamaha start the season on unfamiliar tyres, takes 3 races to gather race data, while claiming good points. Finds settings to suit and starts to win. Stoner/Ducati fight back mid season, admirably you have to say and enough to scare Rossi/Yamaha. Then the defining race of the season, Laguna, where the true champion quality of Rossi came out. Not only did he beat Stoner, he destablised him and the rest is history. Stoner was the fastest rider of 2008, but Rossi was the faster racer. 10/10 is not enough 11..12..
