Not that I'm a cynic, you understand, but poor old Scott has no chance whatsoever. I don't know why the BBC ever bother to nominate guys who are active in bike racing because it's a done deal.............the same as the lacklustre MotoGP coverage that awaits us next year. Don't get me wrong....I would love Scott to win the award and I would be more than happy to be proved wrong, but I don't think I will be!

Monster with you on this one, I expect the beeb will be concentrating on our olympic success and the winner will come from there :? I'm afraid motorcycle racing is still a miniority sport in the UK despite the good attendance figures we get

Nice one Scott! good luck mate.

Can the public vote on this? if so and everyone who attends the Donny GP every year voted for him he would win it. Just a shame he's the only motorsports star in there but mustn't grumble. :-)

I don't think you can vote on this one - think the winner gets picked by a panel or something. It'll probably be won by the Laura Robson girl who won the Wimbledon junior title anyway, or the paralympian swimmer. It's a strong shortlist this year to be honest, which is unlucky for Redding, but it must be great to be recognised all the same.

Lets be fare gents. Laura Robson like Scot is an immense tallent and the Olympians deserve all the recognition they can get. My vote would be for Scot on Donnington performance alone, but it dosnt mean i dont recognise the other major achievers.

He ain't gonna win it, hardly anyone who isn't into bike racing even knows who he is. Did it even make the news?

I've got to say tho, it was the highlight of the sporting year as far as I'm concerned, at Donnington he showed great race savvy for one so young.

Hear hear Monster,
As I am not a Brit I can't say much about the selection process of the BBC, 'our' sport probably comes last in line anyway.
Maybe they don't appreciate the significance of a British GP winner. I do hope that Redding grows and gets further,
Bradley Smith seems more like his own worst enemy at times.

It's the same in every country in the world, no matter what a motorcyclist acheives they will always vote for somebody who competes at the olympics or something simular, none the less it is great to see a young guy like Scott get nominated, makes more people aware of our sport, however it is still :) disapointing when one sport gets ignored all the time in favour of boring sports like tennis (that is only my opinion)that is why I try to explain to people that G.O.A.T does a lot of good in making our sport better known simply because the media report on his every move, anyhow I digress! good luck next year Scott and Bradley!

I realise this may not achieve much in the long run, but i've started a petition for people to show their support for Scott, you can find it at www(dot)gopetition(dot)co(dot)uk/online/23304.html and if it gets enough signatures it might convince the BBC that he deserves the award, so feel free to sign it and pass it on to as many people as possible!
cheers

Not true Rossconz. Belfast Telegraph held a greatest modern sporting hero in N Ireland and to date Joey Dunlop has been first with George Best running a close second and everyone else nowhere. The contestants include a world boxing champ a twice world champ snooker champ and a olympic winner of 4 gold medals, still Joey is out in front as always, as an expat from N Ireland it makes me feel kinda proud that my old country see,s fit to vote for a motorbike racer, but I believe you are right about just about every other country, I really could not see Mike Hailwood, Barry Sheen Geoff Duke or any off the great English world champions getting anywhere. Do your bit for ur sport vote for Joey Belf
