Let's face it, we all knew from day one that Rossi would be #1 and Stoner #2 on this top-10. After that, I didn't think it was quite so clear cut, but Lorenzo thoroughly deserves #3.

He made some massive (and spectacular!) errors, but that's because he was really pushing himself and finding out what the bike was capable (or not quite capable) of. He showed some real raw talent that was very exciting to watch.

He's also, somehow, turned from being a loathsome arrogant swine into a matured, humble, respecting, but no-less charging rider, which has been a pleasant, welcome surprise.

A well deserved 3rd place for Lorenzo... the number 2 and the TOP Spot are easier to guess right now, well... should I mention it? anyone?

I would place Pedrosa in 3rd and Dovi 4th, Lorenzo had a blistering start of the season but soon learned that the M1 is not just a slightly faster 250 Aprilia... Couragious enough (or is it foolish) but still.
Dovi has a much more balanced and clever way of entering the class and his bike was no match for the Fiat M1. So based on that I rate him higher. His methodical approach with the added plus of not having to drag a massive ego around will bring him further in the future IMHO.

@The Morgue
Maybe with same machinery Dovi would outpaced Lorenzo, but what makes you choose Dani for 3rd place over Lorenzo or Dovi?

Well deserved, I agree with you to an extent Morgue, Dovi showed that over a season his method was the better approach but wasnt it good to see Lorenzo come in all guns blazing!?

with regards to courage or stupidity... i'd go with courage, stupidty would be to get on the bike without a clue of what you are doing and hurt yourself, he came off from just trying to gain that extra bit, open the throttle that tenth of a second earlier and he came unstuck. When you knwo the consequences and still push for that bit extra is more courage than stupidty! which is why, although im not a fan, i like the fact stoner always pushes even when he has a lead like brno and misano he was still pushing!

John to me Dani is a huge talent that can podium every race if he stays fit, as well as win some (mostly on home ground).
His wet weather capacities have dramatically imrpoved over the years, though dropping it at Donington is a bad example.
Maybe he should ditch his manager first to break free :p
To me Dovi on that crap Honda is rookie of the year not Lorenzo, I know he won a race and had three poles but that was before he met the man with the hammer and I think it will be a long time before he reaches that level again.

phil taylor - the chupa chups that he eats at the end of the race is because of his sponsor. He said they were his very first sponsor, the first people to ever show any faith in him. So he makes sure they are displayed well on TV. To me its no different than other people wearing multiple hats, etc. during the post-race interviews.

Morgue, I thought Dani binned it in the wet at Germany?

Dovi didn't impress me much. He was in the middle. Didn't do great, but didn't do bad either. He just kinda faded into the background for me. I'm eager to see what he can do with the works bike. Seems his relationship with Puig/Pedrosa hasn't started out so well already!

@Morgue...In order to get the title of Rookie of the year you have to show wins and not just show people you are trying hard. Lorenzo in his 1st year had 6 podium of which one was a win at Estoril. He had 4 poles which is amazing when you have the likes of Stoner, Pedrosa and Rossi to contend with. Apart for the 5 circuits he did not finish, he was always in the top ten...more closer to the midway of the top ten. At one point I think he was in the lead.
Dani Pedrosa had 11 podiums of which he had 2 wins and 2 poles.
Andrea Dovizioso had 1 podium of which he had NO WINS and NO POLES and finished 17 out of 18 races. Yeah, this guy is as exiciting as watching Nicky Hayden in 2006 win the WC.

Dray he was on a satellite Honda that was the result of the failure they made in building their first 800,
Lorenzo was on a copy of Rossis M1, clearly one of the best bikes of the field.
In the previpus year Dovizioso was on an equally under par 250 fighting Lorenzo on the top works Aprilia RS
He showed tenacity and courage in overtaking in MotoGP as well, getting that dog of a bike on the podium IN FRONT of Nicky Hayden on the HRC machine with pneumatic valves.

Matt you're right it was Germany, I stand corrected
