Casey for sure is an unique character.. Somehow he can ride that Ducati like demon, blazingly fast & focused (well, not until Valentino screw his "head" at Laguna Seca)..

Well deserved position, quite realistic I would say.. Return in 2009 with full strength Casey, and more mature.. Nobody is perfect!

And for my dearest loeb, please get ur self a life.. Yes, Stoner undoubtly fast.. But to say he is the Michael Schumasher and Loeb of Motogp is completely wrong..

He has to beat Rossi's record before the people out there recognize him as the greatest ever, which is:
a. 8 times world champion
b. Get himself an underdog bike and win the championship

The thing I admire about Casey is that he's purely about the racing, and doesn't care what people think, or try to make the fans happy. He's young, and will learn to handle himself better for the sake of minimizing the energy he spends dealing with the overzealous media who like to hype things up for the sake of headlines, not because he's worried about being popular.

He's the sort of guy who'd just as happily race in front of a crowd of 10 people, as he would 100,000 people. I like Rossi, and he's done alot for the popularity of MotoGP, but personally I don't care for the 'rock star' status he so enjoys. I'm not the idolizing type. I watch MotoGP because I love racing.

"faster... I agree. Although I don't believe it was professional"

Many riders over the years have acted much more nastily towards their rivals than Casey has. He has occasionally been a little impetuous, but like someone said earlier, Vale at that age was involved in a number of similar incidents. Some of which I consider to be more immature, including a physical altercation, which casey has never lowered himself to.

Casey's only real problem right now is that his actions are exaggerated 10 times more than other riders because he is the #1 rival to the most popular rider in history. If he were a backmarker no-one would see his negative comments as being any different to any other rider.

Jeremy, agree with you but maybe you forgot...

"THE NEXT PLACED YAM WAS ABE IN 10TH.. YET THERE WERE 5 HONDA'S IN THE TOP 8!!!"

Actually The Next placed Yam was his own team mate Carlos Checa in 8th position, 2-6 position was filled by Honda Squad and Abe was in 13th placed

I understand it was a very busy season, how is the crews by the way? :p

Yes, Stoner spat the dummy in a totally undignified way at Laguna, and anybody who admires his riding wishes that had never happened. BUT - he publicly apologised, and he and Rossi seem to be getting on pretty OK now - Rossi remembers that he was a wild child at 22 years old (heck, he took a swing at Biaggi)and he's been gracious enough to say so and say he understood how Stoner came to let it hang out that day. He also savours beating Stoner and nominates him as his hardest competitor ever, so him winning this year is even more impressive to us all and sweet to him. Rossi and Stoner were the class of the '08 field and for his riding, Stoner deserves this rating.

Good to see Casey's acheivments are being recognised by even Crash.net visitors now. You don't have to like the guy but his talent is undeniable.

"As to the Rossi Yam of 04...

Yes Yamaha did the engineering to improve the bike but the imput came from Rossi & to say that bike was the best out there (or even close to it) is utter tosh.

THE NEXT PLACED YAM WAS ABE IN 10TH.. YET THERE WERE 5 HONDA'S IN THE TOP 8!!!"

Not taking anything away from Rossi. I was a huge fan until I saw the Rossi fans here. He is the GOAT and should be recognized as such.

The 04 M1 Had:
Best tires (overnight specials thank you Mich.) Did 07 prove Rossi couldn't win without the best tires?
Best Crew Cheif
Virtually unlimited budget.

Yup, he was on such an inferior bike. How good was Abe anyway? Should we compare Abe to Melandri?

To be fair, im a huge Rossi fan, but im not going to say bad things about anyone as i beleive this vote to be correct.

To realise that the top two places should be taken by these two, you should just watch the laguna seca race. Look at the gap back to the other riders after only a few laps, although dani was not in the race, i doubt he could of handled that pace. Valentino and Casey were in a league of their own this year.

Thanks
