Tho i see his point, i dont really agree. WSBK is much more exciting these days and he isnt in that so life goes on without rider x or y.

sure people are his fans and rightly so, but one person is not bigger than a sport. if his fans left when he retires then they arent bike racing fans, just fans of his brand.

tho not taking away from the great rider he is and good racing he has produced, and the end of the day he is a just one rider.

With 8 WC's Rossi aint just one rider at the and of the day......

He is a living legend and it will take years before there will be a rider that comes near Rossi, if any will come..........

Brendan,
I have no idea what pleb disagreed with you! There's nothing to disagree with in your comment. Rossi is an awesome rider, but racing is only as good as a rivalry within it. No one wants to see one rider miles in front every race (well, except the plank that disagreed with you!). In fact the racing would probably be more exiting without him.

If any other Motorbike series is suppose to be better, why is it that there World Champs are not known. Do not even fool your self that Motogp is faltering. Audience and TV viewership is at an all time highest because of Valentino 2008 WC and the prospect of him being very capable of being the 2009 WC again. Motobike racing will continue even after Rossi retires, because fans loves it, but Rossi is not just another Rider....he is a legend, a super star, the G.O.A.T. When he does retire I will transfer my rooting for Dovi. So the sport will live on because we fans are always looking at the young talent too and rooting for them.

I can see where Briatore is coming from.

As you said Brendan, Rossi isn't in WSB although that is exciting, but if Rossi wasn't in Moto GP then I think that would be nothing! Unfortunately over the last year or so Moto GP has become dull, the were some stats the other week that said not one Moto GP race was won with an overtake on the last lap this season! Rossi is the only reason I watch Moto GP.

He should go to WSB, doubt it would ever happen but imagine him in a championship where people actually race each other!

Rossi should sign for a rival F1 team to Renault and go and kick Briatore's but and his failing Renault team. he is the G.O.A.T. His record answers any question you may wiash to ask of his career.

I have been watching GP's / MotoGP since before Rossi was born and will continue to do so until the grim reaper beckons. I'm a fan of racing not of riders. Many people however only started to follow MotoGP after the Rossi era began and therefore do not know what it was like before him. In my view it was variable - there were golden periods when you had a lot of talented riders challenging for wins and there were also dull periods such as the end of the Doohan era. MotoGP will definitely keep going without Rossi and other stars will shine and wane, but many of todays Rossi "fans" will probably stop watching. If they do they will have proved that they aren't race fans.

...and when he goes all his fans will go with him.

Good. Can't wait.

The show will be better and only bike racing fans will be there to watch. His cheesy grin and post race 'celebrations' are well past their sell-by date and the bias shown by Dorna, Race Direction and the TV is disgraceful.
A great talent undoubtedly, but like Doohan, he makes racing boring and predictable.

WSBK is a far better spectacle, they have just lost their multiple world champion and what are we expecting next year ?....the best season ever !!
The best thing that could happen to Motogp is Rossi retires and they get their house in order, at the moment all they have is Rossi.
(Rossi fans can now 'disagree')

Stevo, i'm a Rossi fan and a bike racing fan, i'm not going to disagree. But being a bike racing fan I want to see racing and not a few bikes following each other around with several seconds between like we saw last season. My personal view is that Rossi was the only thing that added a bit of excitement on occassions, and even he said he found most of the races boring to ride in!
