Although i have attended the GP @ Donington a lot they never have got to grips with adequate access and leaving the place is always a nightmare be it by car or bike.
The facilities for years have been woeful , the standard and cost of on site food frankly criminal so i''ll not mourn it''s loss.
I just hope Silverstone get it right , i''m sure they will have better facilities for getting out after the racing, all they need is the weather.

MOTOGP » Donington hits back at MotoGP loss

Donington Park claim Silverstone are paying Dorna double what they had been in order to secure the rights to the MotoGP British Grand Prix.

Benefit of Donny is that you can camp in the circuit grounds. The fee is reasonable. There are no facilities for camping at the Silverstone circuit and you pay a lot for a weekend to the folk that own the nearby fields.
The cost of the tickets, and the food etc is effected by Dorna so they get a cut of everything sold on site (the same as the costs of everything at a F1 race is effected by Bernies cut).

I agree with Rich to a point. Last 2 years I've been to Donington GP on my bike, and both times I've been back on the motorway within 30 minutes of getting on my bike. In 2006 we took the car and it took just under an hour to get back on the road... not too bad...

Shame, that new design looks excellent

if it's so strong why are teams and sponsors pulling out? Especially when WSB is getting bigger, stronger and more poular than ever?

Money talks ..... !!
Hopefully WSB will remain at Donington as it seems to be the one to watch from this year.

Bear,
You are correct WSBK is getting stronger, but it's still small (financially) in comparison with MotoGP. Outside the UK and to a lesser extent Italy it has a very small following. You should remeber that the factories Honda etc... hold all the cards and they can change the rules as they wish. MotoGP will come out on top everytime.

"Invested heavily." If by that you mean cobbling on a car park section out of sync with the rest of the circuit then I suppose they did. That and leaving spectators and teams with the worst facilities in the championship.

"When we took over only 18000 were turning up." And there was still only 18000 in the year 2000. There's only one reason attendances went up: Valentino.

Yes viewing at Donington is half decent, but for the price you pay they could at least build the occasional new toilets or improve access out of the circuit. I havn't been to Donington since 2005 and doubt I'll make it this year, would rather put the £50 for a ticket towards flights to Brno or Catalunya.

A bold statement claiming that Donington increased viewing - shame it's utter nonsense. Had the British GP been hosted on an indoor karting track im sure numbers would have increased substantially. As philr74 suggests, only Valentino contributed to such increases in viewing. Donington management frankly deserve to lose the rights.

Interesting to read the comments, apparently Donington is the better track for viewing but not for crowd treatment.
If that is the reason they left it (but it isn't, it's money) then Donington has itself to blame.
I personally like the fowing up/downhill tracks like Brands and Donington more that the pancake-flat ones.
We always had good racing at Donington so it is a shame. I think the chances for a runaway winner at a place like Silverstone are bigger.

I'm saddened that Donnington has lost MotoGP as it's a great track and great place to watch racing and in my humble opinion a better track than Silverstone. However, they haven't done themselves any favours as the organsation at the place is rubbish, with last year(since the circuit changed hands)was worse than ever, even the stewards didn't know what was where or what was going on.Add to that the extortionate rate to buy food and drinks,or for example the fact it was an extra £10 to see the Po Boys(hardly a big band)provide the night time entertainment on top of the already expensive entrance ticket price and the event seems like a money extraction exercise! All in all it's not surprising!
