Kallio wants top six finish by season's end

Mika Kallio is targeting a top six finish in at least one of the final three MotoGP races of the season as he bids to bring a positive debut year in the category to a satisfying conclusion.

Kallio has shown star quality on both the factory Ducati Marlboro and satellite Pramac Desmosedici in 2009, but his five top ten finishes have been peppered by an equal number of retirements, including a last lap fall at Assen whilst disputing sixth position.

It means the Finn, who is currently 15th in the overall standings, wants to redeem himself in the final three races of 2009, starting with Phillip Island in Australia, where he finished third riding a 250GP KTM last season.

"On this track I have obtained good results in the past,” said Kallio, who managed a best finish of seventh at Misano. “The last one last season when I concluded in third position in 250cc. It is a technical circuit but also very fast with few points of reference. I always found my self very well on it and I hope I will be able to do the same also in the top class.

“All season long we have been between the fastest riders but I didn't manage to conquer the points I deserved. I've missed at least two top six final positions that I hope to be able to conquer in these last three final races."

Niccolo Canepa, meanwhile, says he will continue to work hard for good results, despite the confirmation he won't be riding for Pramac in 2010. Another new circuit for him to learn, Canepa is nonetheless looking forward to his Phillip Island bow.

"New track, it will be difficult, but never say never. From what I have seen on television it is one of the most fascinating tracks in the MotoGP calendar. It will be really emotional ride here my first laps on my Ducati.

“I will give all I have to obtain a positive result for the Team and my technicians who have supported me always at the best notwithstanding in the last races I didn't conquer satisfying results. I hope to conclude in the best way this season also for them."
