Capirossi confirmed for Assen

Loris Capirossi has confirmed he will be back in the saddle for this weekend's Dutch Grand Prix after recovering sufficiently from his hand injury.

Despite the quick turnaround of races between the Donington Park and Assen rounds, Capirossi claims he is determined to get racing again after allowing Ben Spies to take his place on the Rizla Suzuki for the British Grand Prix.

Praising Spies' ability to conduct himself admirably on his MotoGP debut, Capirossi is nonetheless pleased to be returning to action relatively soon after the accident in Catalunya that broke his hand.

“I'm 100% certain that I am able to ride and I just can't wait to get back on my bike again,” he said. “It was really difficult watching at the last race, but I want to say well done to Ben as he did a good job in his first GP. It certainly felt very strange seeing him working with my crew and sitting in my chair in the garage!

Indeed, Capirossi is keen to aid the development of the GSV-R after the progress made by team-mate Chris Vermeulen during mid-season testing in Spain too. With that in mind, Capirossi is confident of marking his return with a good result.

“I missed the test in Catalunya because of the injury, but I know Chris made some improvements to the bike so I will be looking at those and seeing if they will help me. I need to carry on from where I left off and continue to make the bike better and I know that top result is just around the corner.”
