Donington delighted with calendar slot

Donington Park have expressed their pleasure at being confirmed on the 2009 MotoGP calendar with a prime summer slot.

Although there were fleeting concerns that the forthcoming overhaul in accordance with the circuit securing the rights to the Formula 1 British Grand Prix would threaten its place on the calendar, the FIM are satisfied that the disruption will be minimal.

Following on from this year's record breaking event in June, the event has now been moved to the height of summer for 2009 to July 24/25/26, a fact that circuit officials believe is likely to lure more spectators

“It's a prime time of the year to hold Britain's premier motorcycle race in the UK”, said Donington Park's Chief Executive Simon Gillett “and we are delighted to be able to have the date announced so far in advance, that the record crowd that attended this year's event can plan their arrangements accordingly.”

“We will continue to provide the best possible programme of entertainment for the event, on and off the track,”

The last event before the summer break, it will be the 23rd consecutive year that Donington Park has hosted the MotoGP British Grand Prix. There remain doubts beyond 2009 though, with Silverstone thought to be in the running to secure the rights, although Donington Park insist they are in negotiations to retain their contract.

Biggest annoyance for me at Donny was that they wouldn't let you in the track near the campsite for the whole weekend, barring sunday of course. There were people at the gates so why not let people through? Felt like they were just doing it to wind people up. Instead had to walk all the way around to the main entrance! Gits! Although i will be going because i can't help myself....
