P1 workshop destroyed by fire

The P1 Motorsport team faces a race against time to complete the Renault World Series season following a fire at the team's Norfolk base overnight.

The fire, which is believed to have started in a neighbouring unit on the Oak Tree Business Park in Shropham, destroyed most of the team's assets – including the race cars of James Walker and Daniil Move.

The team will now seek to ensure it is up and running in time for the next round of the season at the Nurburgring, where Walker will seek to close the gap to current points leader Bertrand Baguette.

“I went there this morning and the whole factory has gone,” team boss Roly Vincini told the Norwich Evening News. “It's all gone. It's all been melted to the ground. The whole race team is gone.

“We're struggling. I'm meeting with the guys today to tell them.

“I don't know what to say, every single thing is gone - ten years of photos and trophies and all the things you can't buy back, all completely melted. We've been up all night and now we're just trying to get ready for the next race. We're fortunate that the next race isn't until the 18th, and we will be ready.”
