P1 will race at Nurburgring

The P1 Motorsport team will compete at the Nurburgring this weekend, despite a fire two weeks ago that completely destroyed the squad's Norfolk base and most of the team's assets - including the race cars of James Walker and Daniil Move.

Since then the outfit has worked round-the-clock and they have had to start from scratch as everything except the team's transporter was destroyed in the fire, which started in a neighbouring industrial unit.

P1 Motorsport boss Roly Vincini and his team have pulled out all the stops though, including finding new premises where they have been working hard to prepare the cars for Walker and Move ahead of the penultimate Renault World Series round of 2009.

"I have to say a big thank you to the team," said Walker, who is at P1 today for a seat-fitting. "They really have worked every hour since the fire to get these cars ready.

"I'm confident that they've done a great job; we expect to be as competitive as ever and we are going to the Nürburgring to win."

Since the last round of the Renault World Series in Portugal, Walker and his management have been hard at work to secure a competitive race seat for 2010.

Furthermore while Walker has made no secret of his F1 aspirations, he is mindful of the fact that there is still a lot to do in the Renault World Series and this weekend he will be out to try and close the gap to current points' leader Bertrand Baguette.

"We're still working hard towards the goal of F1 and since the last race we have made a lot of progress," Walker continued. "Lots of meetings, lots of discussions and lots to do now, it is all heading in the right direction!

"This weekend though my concentration will be fully focussed on the Nürburgring. The P1 guys have worked so hard to give me a race car so I will be doing everything I can to make this a successful weekend for them."
