James Walker insists his focus is fully on securing second place in the World Series by Renault standings as he heads into the final rounds of the season at Motorland Aragon this weekend.

Walker currently lies third in the standings in what has become a three-way fight for the runner-up slot behind new champion Bertrand Baguette.

Charles Pic currently holds the place with a seven point lead over Walker, while Toro Rosso F1 driver Jaime Alguersuari is just two points behind in third – and Walker insisted that, after a five-week end of season break, he was ready for the challenge.

“It will be good to get back in the car as the Nurburgring weekend seems like a long time ago now,” he said. “I've had a look at the Motorland track in the simulator as I found it really useful to do that before we went to Portimao for the first time. I think you have to do everything you can to give yourself the best possible chance, especially as there is a big fight for the runner-up spot this year.

“I won't be happy if I don't get the runner-up spot; it was bad enough conceding the championship. We know we are quick. We have been quick all year. I really want to end the year on a high, especially for P1 Motorsport who have done an astounding job for me this season.”

Walker is currently working on his plans for the 2010 season, and revealed that an approach has been made that could see him working in F1 next year.

“I've been spending a lot of time in Jersey with my manager working on proposals for next year,” he said. “I have been approached by a Formula One team that is interested in me becoming its third driver in 2010. It's up to me now to make this work commercially and that is why I have been in Jersey, trying to drum up support from all the local businesses. It was great to see Jenson become F1 World Champion last night and I'm doing everything I can to try to follow in his footsteps.”
