P1 rest hopes on Mann for final round

P1 Motorsport's hopes of clinching the World Series by Renault team championship have been dealt a blow after scaling down to a single car for the final round in Spain.

The Norfolk-based team, who secured the drivers' title last time out in Portugal with Giedo van der Garde, have been reduced to a single machine this weekend because the Dutchman is currently in China having penned a deal to race with iSport International in the GP2 Asia Series.

It means P1's hopes rest on Pippa Mann's shoulders this weekend, although the Brit has currently only contributed five points to their overall tally, compared to van der Garde's 137.

P1 are one of four outfits capable of taking the team title at the Circuit de Catalunya, together with Tech 1 Racing, Ultimate Signature Motorsport and Prema Powerteam.

French reigning champions Tech 1 lead the way on 151 points, with P1 nine points further back on 142, while Ultimate and Prema have made substantial gains in the last few races as they sit just behind on 133 and 126 respectively.
