Edoardo Mortara will get his first taste of a World Series by Renault car when he joins Ultimate Signature Racing for the next group test, in Valencia, tomorrow.

The F3 Euroseries runner-up is in the process of evaluating his options for 2009, with GP2 also on the agenda, and heads to Spain fresh from a dominating performance in the Macau Grand Prix that saw him top each session on the opening day and start the final on pole, before a brush with the barriers relegated him to second place.

No stranger to Renault after winning the Italian FRenault title in 2006, Mortara - who spearheaded Volkswagen's assault on the Euroseries and led the points for the first half of the 2008 campaign - will sample the 500-horsepower World Series car for the first time in Spain, but is looking forward to the experience.

“I'm very grateful to Volkswagen for allowing me to test this car,” the 21-year old French-Italian said, “I think it will be an extremely interesting experience, which will allow me to add to my knowledge.

"We've had a great season this year with Volkswagen, and I look forward to building on that success in the future. I've never driven this type of car before, so I don't know quite what to expect but, with the amount of power available, it should be a lot of fun.”

Mortara tested a GP2 car last month, and is rumoured to be on the short-list for a seat with Racing Engineering, which took Giorgio Pantano to this year's drivers' title.
