Carlin duo impress in Valencia

British F3 racers Jaime Alguersuari and Oliver Turvey produced impressive displays in Valencia after being called up to Carlin's Renault World Series team for the final test session of the 2008 season.

The test marked the second time that the pair, who finished first and second in the British F3 standings, had tested the World Series machinery and they were quickly up to speed at the Spanish circuit.

Taking to the track for the first day of testing on Wednesday, the drivers were faced by damp and challenging conditions, but despite their inexperience in the powerful World Series car, both drivers impressed the team with their speed and feedback.

Conditions remained cold but bright for the second and final day of testing on Thursday, but the pair were consistently in the top ten throughout the day, finishing sixth and eighth overall and also as the top rookies.

“I think we've had a productive two days,” Alguersuari, who was the quicker of the two, said. “I'm really starting to understand the car now and what it takes to get the good lap times. It's very different to the F3 car I've been driving all season, but it's a great car to drive.”

Team boss Trevor Carlin said he was pleased with how the pair had performed, and said he was confident that both could go even quicker with more time behind the wheel.

“It goes without saying that Jaime and Oliver are very talented drivers,” he said. “They finished one-two in the British F3 Series this year and it seems they have been able to translate that raw speed into the World Series car as well.

“Both drivers have improved constantly throughout the two day test and I'm sure they could have been at the very top of the time sheets with a bit more time in the car.”
