Silverstone gets World Series return

The Silverstone Grand Prix circuit has finally been confirmed as the host of the halfway round of the 2009 World Series by Renault, completing the championship calendar after the provisional schedule was issued with Donington Park also in the frame for the UK round.

The Northamptonshire circuit will now stage round five of the World Series on 4-5 July - just two weeks after what appears likely to be the final British Grand Prix at the venue for the foreseeable future - having made its championship bow earlier this year.

The World Series quickly established itself as a major event on the British motorsport calendar and, courtesy of Renault's 'free ticket' policy, has become the second-largest contemporary meeting of the year, behind only the grand prix, with six-figure attendances in both 2007 and 2008.

The 2009 event will again be supported by the Formula Renault Eurocup and Mégane Trophy - which features a stunning new car for 2009 - as well as the British FRenault and Clio Cup series, which have now been able to finalise their calendars around the WSbR date. Each will have two races at Silverstone.

“We are delighted to be returning to Silverstone in 2009 after a hugely successful event there in 2008," Renault UK director of press and PR Tim Jackson said, "A total of 110,000 spectators came to the meeting this season, including many who were experiencing a motorsport event for the first time.”

Free tickets will be made available on request for the 2009 event via the official World Series by Renault website.
