Baguette secures Spa pole

Bertrand Baguette has secured pole position in the World Series by Renault for the first time after leading the way in qualifying at Spa.

The Draco driver posted the quickest time during the twelve-driver Superpole session to edge out James Walker for top spot, securing his position at the head of the field for the second race of the weekend.

Baguette left his lap late during the session and admitted he was thrilled to snare pole.

“I'm really pleased!” he said. “In the first part of qualifying today, I didn't get a very clear run and I only just qualified for the SuperPole. In the SuperPole, I did three laps on my own and I was able to take the pole. It's important so I can go for this win, which I need!”

Walker was just 0.026secs behind in second place, with Miguel Molina demoted to third having held provisional pole earlier in the session. He will be joined on the second row of the grid by Adrian Valles, with Charles Pic and Daniil Move on row three.

Marcos Martinez was seventh quickest ahead of Marco Barba – who takes pole for race one under the reverse grid draw as a result.

Oliver Turvey was ninth from Brendon Hartley, Jaime Alguersuari and Pasquale di Sabatino.

Adrian Zaugg was the leading runner not to make it through to Superpole in 13th place.
