Garcia joins Superleague with Sevilla

Borja Garcia has become the latest high-profile driver to confirm his place on the Superleague Formula grid after penning a deal to compete for the Sevilla FC team.

Garcia, who finished tenth overall in the 2007 GP2 Series for Durango, had started the season racing in the World Series by Renault but was forced to leave after only a few rounds when he hit financial difficulties.

Nonetheless, Garcia will be back on the grid for the inaugural round of the football-meets-motor racing series at Donington Park, competing for his home team of Sevilla.

A considerable honour for Spaniard, Garcia will join the likes of Yelmer Buurman, Robert Doornbos and Ryan Dalziel in establishing a relatively good quality field for the opening event next weekend.

"It's an honour to be representing Sevilla and I will try to perform to the very best of my ability. There are few teams that have drivers of the same nationality, and particularly since we are all Spaniards in this together, we want to do particularly well.

"We will go to Donington Park tomorrow and we're going to be aiming for the top. My two passions are racing and football, so it'll be fantastic to mix the two. I am now 100% Sevillista and will be following the team closely. We have to give it our all."

The Sevilla team will be overseen by Spanish Formula 3 outfit GTA Racing.
