Walker to run with Rangers in Superleague

World Series by Renault driver James Walker will give his repertoire a boost after securing a deal to race for Rangers FC in the latest round of Superleague Formula.

With Ryan Dalziel, who raced the car at the inaugural event at Donington Park, committed to the Grand-Am Rolex finale at Miller Motorsports Park, Walker has been 'loaned' to Rangers to race at the Nurburgring.

A familiar circuit for Walker, who has competed there in two seasons of World Series by Renault racing, it was also the scene for his maiden International Formula 3 victory back in 2005.

"I was out of luck in the race at the 'Ring in World Series by Renault because I picked up a puncture,” the Jerseyman said. “Hopefully our luck will be a bit better in the Rangers car.

"I was third fastest in the World Series test prior to the weekend so I am confident we will be quick in the Superleague Formula car.

"The Nürburgring was the scene of my first major international win in F3 so I have fond memories of the place. Having just raced there a couple of weeks ago should give me and Rangers a great advantage."

Although it will be the first time Walker has raced one of the Elan Motorsport chassis, he has nonetheless driven one before after shaking down the Liverpool entry at Donington Park. As such, he is confident he can hit the ground running in Germany.

"My first impressions of the Superleague Formula car were really good,” he added. "When I tested for Liverpool, I was really happy with the car even though I only did about 25 laps on old tyres.

"It has a lot of power and it looked and felt fantastic – I can't wait for the opportunity to try the car on fresh tyres and represent Rangers next week."
