Walker ends tough season on a high

James Walker gave a reminder of his potential during the final round of the World Series by Renault in Spain, even if he did miss out on a first win of the season on the very last lap of the season.

Walker has endured a tough 2008 with Fortec Motorsport, the Brit having come into the year with a race winning rookie campaign under his belt and high hopes of a title push.

However, points haven't been forthcoming for Walker this season and he was languishing down in 16th place overall heading into the season finale, held at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Still, after reaching Superpole for only the fourth time this season, Walker shone in the first race to finish in seventh place, equalling his best result of the year, before following that up with second place in the very final event of the season.

Even so, it could have been better for Walker, who led following the pit-stops and was on course for victory when he lost out to a last gasp effort from Esteban Guerrieri on the final lap. Nonetheless, Walker was delighted to end his year on an ultimately positive note.

“I'm very happy with today's result,” said James. “Of course it would have been amazing to win but after the recent luck we've had I'm very happy to take second.

"It feels good to end the season on a high like this, especially as people always remember your last result. Really this is great and it gives us a great platform from which to make our plans for next year.”
