Walker pleased with Ricard test

James Walker declared himself happy with two days of World Series by Renault testing at Paul Ricard, where the Jersey driver got chance to try his hand with two of the leading teams on the grid.

The first day of the test saw Walker join forces with the Ultimate-Signature squad, which took victory in the final race of the 2008 campaign with Argentine driver Esteban Guerrieri.

Walker then moved over to P1 Motorsport for the second day of running as he took the opportunity to turn laps with the team that took Giedo Van Der Garde to the 2008 drivers' title.

“Ultimate are a very good team,” he said. “They are a relatively new team but the people involved have massive amounts of experience so the level of professionalism was great to experience. I was very happy as I was immediately fast in the dry, running on old tyres, so it was a good test for me.

“We sat out the first half hour on Friday morning [with P1] as the track was still damp from some overnight rain. When I went out I was no.1 straight away which was great. Throughout the morning the track got quicker and quicker and I was pleased that every time I was on circuit I set the fastest time. I managed a 16.1 quite easily on new tyres at the end of the session and I was happy to get that in the bag as the rain came down again during the lunch break.

“We had a technical problem at the end of the day that delayed us a little so I only managed a few laps but I was still fourth fastest in the afternoon session, albeit with half the amount of running as the top three and a red flag on my fastest lap. All in all I am very happy with how the test has gone.”
