Macau: Dan Kneen making solid progress
20 November 2012
Manx rider Dan Kneen was more than satisfied with a top 10 result at the Macau Grand Prix on only his second trip to the event.
Road racing prospect Kneen finished ninth on the Marks Bloom Suzuki at the 3.8-mile Guia street circuit, with only a plethora of seasoned Macau regulars finishing ahead of him.
The 25-year-old, who shaved five seconds off his previous best lap time in qualifying, feels he can challenge for the top six in 2013 as he builds up his experience of the course.
“I've really enjoyed my return to Macau and having arrived nice and early, I was able to relax and ease my way into the meeting,” he said.
“The lap times were good and I was running a good pace and ahead of quite a few riders with a lot more experience than me while the ones ahead were all top runners.
“It was a similar story on Sunday and I just had a nice, steady race keeping it all nice and smooth,” he added.
“There were some top lads in front of me and they were just that bit quicker than me, utilising their experience, but I'm sure with a bit more work to the bike and another year under my belt, the top six will be within reach in 2013.”
The race had been postponed by 24 hours due to rain.
