Todd Kelly eager to bank points in Queensland

Todd Kelly is targeting a trouble-free weekend of racing as the V8 Supercar Championship heads to Queensland Raceway for the latest round of the season.

The Jack Daniels Racing man has been on the pace throughout the season to date at the wheel of his Holden Commodore with his fifth place in the season-opening Clipsal 500 being the highlight of the season so far following his switch from the factory HRT squad.

Kelly also ran well in the third race at Darwin last time out to come through from the back of the grid to finish eleventh but in between those two races, he has found himself in embroiled in a number of incidents on track that have affected results.

"I just want to go to Queensland and concentrate on having a clean weekend," he said. "From the start of this year, other than Clipsal, I have not got through one round without drama.

"There's been times when there's been a fair bit of potential for a decent result so I'd just like to get through the weekend and try to finish all three races without any issues and try to get some points.

"For the year we've had, we should be 20th in the championship. Somehow we're tenth, so we just need to get a weekend under our belt where we get some good points, so that's what we're going to be focused on. Try and qualify well and finish all three races well."

Kelly said the track condition was a big question mark after resurfacing work, and that his Jack Daniel's Racing crew would need to work quickly to come to terms with it when practice kicks off on Friday.

"It depends whether it's got more grip than last year or not," he said. "If it's got more, with our car, that should be a good thing. As soon as we drive on the track and figure out what it is, we'll adapt pretty quickly to it."

Team-mate Shane Price sits 26th in championship standings and admitted that while he was still learning and making mistakes in his second season driving in the main series, he was pleased with the performance of his new-spec car.

"I'm excited about Queensland Raceway - I know the track well, have raced there a couple times and have done ok," he said. "The new spec car is definitely different to what I've been used to. With Darwin under my belt and using Todd's experience as much as I can, I think we can definitely produce a good result in Queensland and I'm certainly aiming for that."
