Radisich reveals true extent of injuries

Paul Radisich's accident at Mount Panorama on Saturday morning has left the Kiwi with more extensive injuries than initially reported although none, thankfully, are life-threatening.

The V8 Supercar veteran was at the wheel of the #15 HSV Dealer Team Commodore when a suspected sticking throttle sent him off the road at the top of the Mountain and hard into the concrete wall that bordered the waiting gravel trap.

Radisich was initially reported to have badly broken his right ankle, an announcement that was later upgraded to also include a dislocation of the left ankle. However, having spent time in hospital - where he was airlifted to in the wake of the shunt - the New Zealander has revealed a list of ailments that will require a long period of acute care.

A statement issued on Radisich's behalf confirms that, aside from the fractured right ankle - which has already had been operated on and had plates inserted - and further fractures to his left foot - which will require surgery when he returns to Melbourne - he also reopened the fractured sternum sustained in his 2006 Bathurst shunt, fractured lumbar and thoracic vertebrae, cracked ribs and suffered bruising to his lungs.

The statement also pointed out that Radisich and wife Patricia now wished to concentrate on his recovery and rehabilitation, and have requested some privacy to deal with the next six to eight weeks. Radisich is hoping to return to Melbourne on Friday to be nearer to his family.

Get well soon Paul!! Been a few years since I last caught you - Phillip Island 2001(?!?), but was also great seeing you in BTCC in the 90's. Hope to see you back in a car as soon as you're comfortable.
