SBR bound for Bahrain

Stone Brothers Racing will head to Brisbane Airport on Friday morning with its two BF Ford Falcons and air freight containers, bound for the Bahrain International Circuit in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The Desert 400 in Bahrain is one of only two fly-away rounds in the V8 Supercar Championship Series, the other being the Hamilton 400 in New Zealand.

With the Bahrain round now in its third year of existence, and with six fly-away races now under its belt, SBR's preparation for an overseas round is just as slick as that of a domestic round.

While space is at a premium in the team's two 18m3 air freight containers, the three-time championship team is well prepared for any eventuality.

A full set of panels is included for each car along with extra rear quarter panels, wing mirrors, head lights, tail lights and front and rear windscreens. Spare components include four complete steering racks, ten brake pad and disc sets, two rear axle housings, two gear boxes, three radiators and two tail shafts just for starters.

Add to that all the data equipment for the engineering team, four SP tool boxes, power and fabrication tools and all the parts required to repair all types of damage and it becomes clear that managing the logistics of a fly-away race is essential.

Finally, each car takes two front and two rear bars, one engine and 16 wheels in addition to the air freight containers while the JELD-WEN Motorsport and SP Tools Racing Falcons are loaded one-above-the-other onto a two level cradle, ready to be loaded on to the 747 400 Series Freighter Aircraft.

SBR will also take both of its passenger ride seats to Bahrain for the first time to provide six lucky Australian Navy personnel with a hot lap in the JELD-WEN Motorsport and SP Tools Racing Falcons.

Focusing on the race, SBR will be hoping to turn its fortunes around in Bahrain after a difficult home round at the Nikon Indy 300.
