Jim Beam Racing's Will Davison secured fifth place overall in the Falken Tasmania Challenge at Symmons Plains Raceway this weekend, the penultimate round of the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship.

Having qualified in 18th position, Davison's effort in the first race on Saturday where he swept through the field in wet conditions to be fourth by the end was the telling performance and laid the foundation for a remarkable fight back after such a disappointing and uncharacteristic qualifying result.

Indeed in the end he was fifth in race two and sixth in race three - both times fractionally in front of his team-mate, Steve Johnson.

"Any weekend you qualify in 18th position and finish 4th [as we did in race 1], you have got to be absolutely over the moon," said Davison. "We really stuck at it, had a good race car and were able to make the most of the wet conditions in the opening race which really set us up.

"I came to Tasmania with the aim of getting back fifth spot in the Championship and hoping for a podium, we got back in the top five and just missed the podium so it was a terrific effort from the team."

Johnson meanwhile was also pleased and after a solid qualifying effort where he was fifth fastest the Queenslander fully capitalised to be inside the top ten in all three races.

"To be in the top ten for all three races was just a really solid and consistent performance," he added.

"Neither Will or I finished outside the top ten in all three races, so to be that consistent on a track where you never quite know how things may pan out is very pleasing; and to have to Jim Beam Falcon's in the top six for the round is a very good performance."

Johnson and Davison's terrific form catapulted Jim Beam Racing to third place on the teams Championship points table, an indication the team is well and truly on the right path.
