Paul Dumbrell will drive the 2009-specification Holden Commodore in the final round of the 2008 V8 Supercar Series as he looks to bring a frustrating season to a satisfying close.

Dumbrell and his HSV team-mate Rick Kelly have endured a tough year in 2008, with '06 champion Kelly heading into the final round at Oran Park eighth in the standings, while Dumbrell is in 19th.

Nonetheless, Dumbrell will join Kelly in giving the car he will race in 2009 an early debut around the Sydney circuit, which he hopes will be the impetus he needs to challenge for next year's title.

“This week has been really hectic in getting ready for not only for the last round but debuting a new car this weekend has added a bit of a workload for the guys” he said. “I can't wait to actually get into the car and race it for the first time. I have only done it once in my career so I am looking forward to it immensely.”

The weekend, meanwhile, will see Oran Park host its final ever event this weekend before it is redeveloped into a housing area. A sad moment for many of the V8 Supercar drivers, who consider Oran Park to be an Australian classic, both Dumbrell and Kelly are determined to do well.

“It has been a frantic back end to the year with five races in around nine weeks” Dumbrell said. “Oran Park is one of the best driver circuits, you talk about Bathurst, Phillip Island and Oran Park as being tracks, we as drivers, like driving around. Not being able to race there after the end of this year is going to be pretty disappointing.”

“Oran Park is an enjoyable track to drive around and is a real driver's circuit,” Kelly added. “I am looking to finish on what we hope will be a high. It is the final race ever at Oran Park which would be a really good one to win.

“We were lucky enough to win the last ever race at Pukekohe in New Zealand and I think it is a great honour to be the final round winner.”
